| White vinegar is the safest way. It is pretty effective. Yes, dillute it.
I think that you are referring to hydrochloric acid (HCL) or muriatic acid. Some people use this to do the same. Personally, I get enough pollution working in Gustavo's acrylic shop. I don't like acids (not since my school daze...er days) anyways!
