I have an Aquanetics (they are out of business) temp controller that I use. Yesterday I thought that my chiller was running a long time and when I wiggled the probe around the temp dropped from the 80 that was showing to 78. Set point is 79. Then the temp started to go crazy. So I unplugged the controller to see if it would reset itself. But when I plugged it back in instead of a temperature it said "ep". This must be an error code but I can't seem to find any error code info online. Can anyone help with this error code? Do you think it means the probe is bad or the controller?
that happened to me 2 times. the first time i unplugged everything and cleaned of the probe really well and reprogrammed all the settings and it worked again, the second time it happened, nothing worked again. some of them, the water can get inside the probe and short out the controller.
OK. I use it all the time on my pumps but didn't know if that was too harsh for the probe. On the other hand, what's the worse that could happen, it wouldn't work?
Funny you asked. I soaked the probe in vinegar and just re-connected it tonight. The controller was unplugged for a couple of days. Unfortunately with the same results, "EP". I had connected the probe before plugging the controller in. So I unplugged the controller and disconnected the probe. Then I plugged the controller back in and re-connected the probe but still have "EP". When you connect the probe the controller clicks and the digital display goes up, up, up and then goes to "EP".
Of course no local store has a probe so I am in a quandary of what to do. I hate to order a probe and find the controller is bad. On the other hand, a probe costs less than a controller. Decisions, decisions. All advice welcome.
it would appear that buying it all now is wiser. your controller has seen come service, and you dont' want to end up having to pay more for buying the two separately. if it was me, i would buy all new and save the old one for future repair or cannibalizing.
i believe the aquanetics controller was made by nema. there is a rewiring and calibration process that they don't want you to know. anyway, from my experience, the chiller can last forever, but the controller avg of 5 years.
