HELLO!!! Sorry it took so long to reply! It's great to know that someone cares! Yes I am new that this and am doing research daily to better understand it. My tank has been around for almost a yr. (bought it for my boyfriend, but he became too busy to maintain it). I have two biowheels. With four blue fuzzy filters in the back. I have the test kit with everything in it (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite,ph,buffer, alkalinity) and have found my ammonia to be slightly high(just under 0.25) so i've been doing water changes daily with deionized water and sea salt (watching the ph closely of course) and I'm just wondering if LR is OK with my cc starfish. The other levels are within normal limits. Do you think I should buy some live bacteria from my LFS?
Good Morning Erin, I would like to help you with the problems you're having with the 55 gal. I'm Dick from TR. I have the feeling you are very new at this and before we lose you to complete frustration, I'd like to begin your education. Is that OK? Assuming it is... How long has your tank been up and running? I know you have a bio-wheel filter. Is there more than one? What test kits do you have? What are your water parameters? Ammonia Nitrite Nitrate pH For now those are the most important tests. I'm going to assume you have gotten your advice from a LFS employee. Unfortunately, all too often, that is the worst place to get advice. I know it seems very strange, but true. We at TR will help you through this and you will soon be keeping these beautiful reef critters alive with few incidences as you experienced so far. I'd like you to read an article I wrote, Nine Simple Rules, to healthier fish - Nine Simple Rules It will help you make better decisions on fish choices at the LFS. In friendship, Dick
