first, let me say this is my experience.....i am not recommending this method or any product....just sharing my experience
when i started, as i said in the first post, i ended up losing most of my fish to ich.....i had moved them to a hospital tank and that only made the situation worse....i had a mess on my hands....i was clueless
so, anyways.....i am not a huge fan of hospital tanks, after that experience and i tend not to
QT....so, what do i do when faced with a sick fish
my first battle w/ ich left me 2 fish, my firefish......they were fine for a few weeks...so, i added 2 clowns to the tank....i lost one of the clowns withiin 2 days......he turned white, quit eating and died.....i still do not know what that was caused by......within the next 2 days, my girl, clover, began to show signs of being sick......she had white clumps on her face and head (not ich, large clumps)......i started using ick-attack in the tank......within a few days she was fine
moving on to now, months later:
i have the 110g....i am not QTing.....my little clown, crimson, has a mark on him....i do not believe it is related, but in case it is, here it is.....so, i move him to a hospital tank, thinking it is brook.....i now believe clover bit him......after a few days of observation and no other signs of illness, i move him back to the 110
2 days after that, i notice that clover has white dots on her.....from my previous experience, i believe it is ich....i had just added a new fish to the tank the previous thursday & it looked like ich......i wait a day and watch....it does not clear up....i also note spots on crimson
so, i begin to treat the tank w/ the ick-attack......instead of dosing once a day, i dose twice a day, 12 hrs apart.....i email kordon and asked about the
skimmer......was told to turn it off for 1 hr after dosing.......i have left it off longer, sometimes 24 hrs at a time.......i also hooked up the UV, which i had been putting off.....and upped the vitamins at feedings
at this point, i am one week into the treatment and there is no sign ich anywhere to be seen.......all the fish are eating, active and look great....i will keep dosing for the next 4 or 5 days and watching for any signs of stress or illness
inverts:
no sign of ill effects to any inverts...that is corals (lps, sps, softie), crabs, snails, sea stars, shrimp, clams, sea fan.....no stress what-so-ever
i ws not sure about posting this, as the risk of flames....but we are here to share and hopefully learn along the way....so here it is
