damn, yet another thread to look at in depth, you people & your bag @ss tank builds..lol Why cant you keep it simple like your redneck brothers & sisters!
BK, going to have to come back to this so i can look alot more close bud!
There you are mate. So sorry to bother your home brew drinking with my recent labors! Big aquascape project this coming weekend and I should be done with all the gear. Levels are good, just a little nitrate to get rid of (plan on a decent water change with all the rock work). Tested the doser this weekend, puts out about about 6ml per 10 seconds. Ordered sand from Dick and I've got a friend coming over Sunday so we should get everything done. Got the wrong RO/DI fitting to replace the one I broke, ordered another that hopefully will fit (i'm no plumber). Float valve (for auto top off) arrived with tubing for it and the doser. Will take pics of all. I look at those simple little bowls with goldfish now and sigh.
I've really fallen in love with Scuba Diving over the past couple of years and wasn't sure how to deal with what I see happening to the reefs and my fondness for keeping a tank. Now that there is a whole community of "fraggers" I would like to take advantage of that and sleep better at night. I do like lps such as torches and hammers but would really like to finally get some sps since I have upgraded the entire system in order to support them. Any advice from members on "starter" sps or good sources would be welcome.
Thanks for that I'll go look for some now that the tank has settled. I still have some fine tune aquascaping to do but I had to stop yesterday after a marathon session. Here's the list:
Made a bunch of RO/DI water. Drilled the sump and istalled the float valve, no leaks and it works perfectly. Hooked up the doser, will prime and program tonight. Drill and cut PVC tubing a' la Dick to get live rock off new DSB. Remove canopy and all 125+ lbs of live rock and few remaining corals. Replace Vortech wetsides with new ceramic magnet and plastic shafts. Cut and remove return pipes and install flow accelaerators. Rinse and pour in 60 lbs new aragonite from Dick. Install PVC risers in very cloudy water. Put all live rock back in very cloudy water. Fuss with placement until I could do no more. Put canopy with mounted Solaris back on top. Plug everything back in and wait for water to clear. All in all maybe about 10 hours with a few breaks here and there.
I just got a happy birthday email, wow that's so cool. Thanks a lot guys! I've already received a big gift certificate for my LFS. Now that my levels are good and all the grunt work is done I think I'll go out and treat myself to something pretty.
Reaching my 70th BD, I realize that I cannot help but grow old. However, I refuse to grow up!!! My wife would tell you, "He may be 70 but, He's going on 17". Life is wonderful with a woman like that.
Thanks Carmie, survived it. Agreed Jasonanatal, you have a pm. Having trouble with the doser, have to start again with that, Calcium line keeps getting unexplainable bubbles. Still some Nitrate left so I did a water change and I think I'll pick up a new test kit for that, current one is way old and hard to read. I leave for vacation Saturday night so I'm not stocking until I come back.
