Aww, that stinks. I hate to loosing fish. IMO, your tank is well established and you probably could add them all at once but, I always prefer the phase in approach.

how big is too big for my 65G? The tank is 36Lx18Wx24Dn the fish is about 4.5 to 5" long right now...
I would say that any good size tang (over 4 inches) should have a 4 to 6 foot tank minimum. Tangs are grazers in the wild and swim from side to side all day long.
The good news is that Blue Hippos are very popular and most LFS will take them in on trade, especially a established healthy one
You could always get a smaller one to replace it. They get Blue hippos in all the local stores here that are about 1.5 inches

Yeah that seems to be the concensus, so alas I will have to trade him off after vacation. That will give me an opportunity to get a few more fish and experience some new species though.

I have to do some research, but I have a few ideas. I already have a GBTA on hold for me, and I would like to add another perc, but it would have to be a small one as the other is well established.

That would leave me with 2 clowns and a damsel. I was thinking I would like a group of 3 schooling fish and maybe a longnose hawfish, but I need to dosome research to see their habits...

OFF TOPIC: Aaron, you still have a BMW? What model? I just got a '98 740IL and she is a cherry!

Well I think I have my blue tang sold, so now i have to decide what to put back in the tank.

I was thinking of adding a Long nose Hawkfish, and 3 chromis and a clown. That would be in addition to my clown and damsel that are already in there. Total of 7 small fish. Any input on my selections would be appreciated...

MACNA did it to me, got the bug back into me and I am at it again. I ordered up my Algagen Nanno culture so i am in th phyto growing business again, I got some artemia so I can feed my tank some fresh hatched food occasionlly, and I ordered up some Reef Frenzy to try.

I am looking at a potential Solaris light, but I have an uphill battle with the wife (even with a 7 year payback) however I am considering a new Vortech pump.

I also have a 10 gallon at the ready, I may experiement with some invert breeding in that tank.

Dose the refugium water flow over the wall into the pump area of the sump and back into the tank? Is that how it works?

Yes, the fuge water flows over the wall into the middle section (pump) and then the return pump "returns" it to the main display tank.

Thanks. And by the way you did a great job hooking that tank up.

Its only been 6 months since my last photo post...

What can I say, life gets in the way. I thought I would post some recent shots and they can double as a vbefore and after as well as I am upgrading my lighting. I recently purchased two MH pendant lights as shown here, and in these photos.

They are two 175 watt MH with 2x28W PC Actinic each. I have been wanting to get get a MH setup, and these looked like a good deal. I will be posting my upgrade here and asking for input and opinions.

Sweet - the tank is looking great. So I assume the photos are without the new MH lights?

I have to say that this is one of the best threads I have read. to see the way the tank and the reefer has matured and learned truly puts a little more wind in my sails. I am currently in the process of buying a new house. sad to say that my 400 gallon in wall that is in the current house is coming down sunday But the good news is with a new house comes a new tank. I am thinking either a 180 or a 210 gallon. the good thing is that I am keeping all the equipment from the 400 to go into the new tank. and I have about a 1500.00 budget for the new tank which will go towards sand LR and stock!!! should be fun. I only hope that my build thread will be as informative and well read as this one. WAY TO GO WILDONE!!!

Yes, they are witout the MH lights. I still have to decide what I would like as far as a K rating I was at my LFS today and I really like the blue of the 20K's. ALl of the colors of the corals had so much "pop" to them. I am kind of tired of the 10K's. Any downfall in runnin a 20K?

Thanks for the kind words, but it has been even more beneficial to me! I have used it to collect all of my thoughts and pick the brains of some of the best people in the hobby, all my friends here on TR. Without the input of everyone here, I would be taking the advice of my LFS, which may not be a good thing!

Thanks again for the kind words.
