My ALK is climbing and I assume it is due to Kalk dosing. It is at 4.8 with a hardness of 13.4. I have not increased the dose at all since I started. I am due for a 10% changeout tonight, so i think I will do that. My PH is 8.07 currently and my Ca is at 450. I think I need to back my dosing down a bit. I am dosing 1 liter per night.

yes, remember
you should be dosing to handle the current uptake.

so stop dosing and continue measurements. see how much the levels drop off on a daily basis. that is what you will use to determine how much kalk to add..

you might find you only need to dose every few days

yeah i agree with rob! wether its a terestrial plant or a hydra coral, they tend to suck the elements dirrectly out of the enviromnent they need in order to grow! sometimes it doesn't always follow a set pattern, but more often that not u will after alittle bit of time get used to the general uptake of your animals!thats untill u add a new Ca loving addition..lol your shouldn't have to dose a huge amount as of now, its the coral wall builders that use the most Ca as building blocks for structual formation and growth!
really make an effert to test frequently untill u get a handle on where u are sitting.
all the other parameters have come up a smidge which is good! heres to stable conditions! lol
have u managed to check your Mg levels?

just to add the over run for perspective> with every ingredient in your mixing bowl alk is most like the binding agent! limits those unwanted swings in Ph that u were concerned about. proper Mg levels helps u as the doser get as much Ca in usable form to the corals. Ca is an all u can eat food basket (that yogi would be dribbling over) that Ca building corals will readily absorb to grow bigger>just for u wildman!

Yes FW, do remember that. I will discontinue dosinging starting tonight and I will monitor my conditions. Then when I see my Ca drop to 350 I will dose a small amount (probably 65ml an hour for 500 ml worth) and see where that puts me. Is it Ca that I want to gauge my dosing off of or ALK or what?

Thanks for the response and explinations Rob and Veriann and FW, i appreciate all your help!

Couple quick notes:

Ca level is at 450, and I have stopped Kalk dosing. Alk is 4.23 and a KH of 11.8. This was post water changout. I will test again in 1 week.

I am meeting WWest tomorrow to swap a leather frag, a feather duster (never done that one before) and a gllaon of Phyto for a couple corals. I am also going to give him a fresh innoc of phyto to get his phyto pharm going.

I also hag 3 gallons of extra phyto, and I thought I would try to sell it on RC, but I guess that is not allowed they removed my post and suggested I give it away. I don't have a problem giving it away, I just thought I could recoup $15 a gallon or I even said I would trade if you had a coral frag I was interested in. I can sell coral frags there, just not phyto...I don't get it.....

wwest met today at my jobsite near his workplace. We traded some frags and I gave him a culture to start his phyto farm and a gallon of phyto. He gave me two nice frags, photos to follow.
