Okay! So, I'm finally getting some pictures up! It may be a bit picture intense, because it's taken awhile to get all this up.
We bought our house April 2005, renovated for 8 weeks before moving in, and have been renovating ever since. When buying the house, we decided to upgrade our 550 liter (145gallon) to a 1600 liter (425g). In doing so, the decision was made to create an aquarium room around the tank - partly to reduce the noise and partly to hide all the unsightly equipment, etc. This is the future site of the aquarium room:
Seen from the other side...clearing the space and knocking down the walls. The aquarium room will go on the right side of the picture.
Now the new walls are up and the space is has been assigned!
The steel table that was built for the new tank
I'm heading off to bed, but will get more up tomorrow!

Reason: new site for pictures
All the strong men (6) carrying the tank down a rocky hill and into the house. The tank weighs 200kg (440lbs) (glass - sorry Dick! I know you're a proponent of acrylic! It's just not as popular here yet). There were a couple moments where I wasn't so sure that it would make it into the house safely!
But, as luck would have it, we did get it in and onto the stand.
Just a little size comparison. ...that's the little Reefbaby, by the way....growing up!
First the framing went on around the tank:

WOW Christi!!! That's an AWESOME tank! Keeps us up to date on the progress of this nice project. So are you in a remodelling phase at your house? Thanks for sharing.
-John
Got the door on and the hanging door for the front of the aquarium. Since the tank is 1 meter deep (not tall), I won't be able to reach stuff in the front of the aquarium from the back of the tank, so Georg's built this door that we can prop open. We're trying to figure out some kind of "gas-spring" (don't know the english word) for the door rather than having to prop it open.
Yeah...we've done an extreme makeover! There's hardly a wall still standing that was an original one. I'm in the process of updating our website with the renovations. I can send you the link when I've gotten it updated a bit! :-)
Wow, Christi opened up her house and invited us in. I think we're family! :>)
Thanks Christi. That's an awesome tank and a beautiful setting for it. Is that a metal frame??? Haven't the Swedes figured out about selicone cement? Please explain.
Everyone knows my view on Acrylic but, if you can't get it you go with the next best thing.
Cute picture of Hannah. Of course, I'm in love with her. Are we ever going to see a pic of her mommy and daddy??? I can't quite make out the reflection in the tank.

Of course you've become my reefing family!! :-)

Are you referring to the stand that the tank's on? It's a steel frame. Or maybe you're referring to the frame on the front of the tank? Yes, of course, the tank is glued together with silicone cement, but we had the people add an aluminun frame on the outside of it, but only for looks. It's siliconed to the outside of the tank, because we wanted to have a more clean, modern look...

Well...we are nowhere near as photogenic as our progeny, but I'll try to find a decent photo to share with my "family"! :-)
We got the inside of the room waterproofed, sealed and painted!
We sealed the floor - not anticpating any major flooding, but we wanted to protect the floor a bit from the typical splashes with cleaning, water changes, etc. Also got in a counter and sink.
A friend of ours so graciously "gave" us this Aqua Medic Twin Turbofloater. We were going to get a Bubble King, but decided to try this one out first instead. If it works well, then we're set! Here's a short description:
Quote:
The 5000 series protein skimmers have been developed for larger aquaria. Just like the smaller models, they feature venturi pumps which include a patented needle wheel for optimal mixing of the air and water. The reaction cylinder has a diameter of 8 inches. Above the cylinder, the patented conical foam cup improves the production of foam. The inlets and outlets of the skimmer are designed to ensure an extensive contact time for the air bubbles within the counter-current.
Check it out! It's 6 ft. and sufficient for 1250 gallons, so I guess we'll be skimming the xxxx out of our system.
OMG, I'm going to Sweden. You need a master pipefitter to pipe that baby!
Christi, we are going to have to have a direct line when you pipe that system. I'm so excited for you and Georg. You guys really pre-planned this whole thing. Water proofing, counter with sink, you guys rock!!!
I now got it about the frame around the tank, thanks.

]Yeah - talk about pre-planning. We've been planning this for an entire year now and it still doesn't have any water in it!!!

YES YES YES!!!!

Dick, you and Sue are always more than welcome!!! :-)
I will definitely need your help with the plumbing. I have a friend (whom I got the skimmer from) that's pretty good with this stuff and can retrofit pretty much anything. But, I'll need your expertise in terms of sizing and true valves, etc. In fact, I need a Plumbing 101 for Reef Idiots! Could you give like a basic terminology, description of parts kind of synopses? I know I'm being greedy here!
