We think you'll like it here. Lots of nice and knowledge reefers around.
I believe reefbaby is visiting the US right now. Haven't heard from her for a bit but think she's very busy or she would pop in and post.

Hej Christian!! Thanks for checking out the site. Great to see you here!!
Just so everyone knows....Christian is a HUGE resource for the Swedish reefkeeping community. He runs and administrates www.saltvattensguiden.se, where there are over 1600 members. He also organized our first reef club meeting not too long ago. I'm really excited to see him checking out the forum here, although I know he's super busy with his own!
Christian - I'm on vacation right now in the US, but I'll be sure to post my pictures on the swedish site as well!
Hi everyone else!!! I miss you all and can't wait to find a few spare minutes to get back on top of things!
Thanks for popping in. We know you are busy. You should know you are missed!

Thanks Steve - actually I'm hoping to have a few start up pics soon. My friend came over last week and we measured out all the piping that we need and designed the plumbing, so I'm getting really excited.
The only problem is that my new RODI system still hasn't arrived (going on two months now!). I'll try to post some pics this weekend of some of the new equipment that my hubby brought back from Germany a few weeks ago. The coral frags he brought with have gone into the other tank....just waiting!
Hej Christian! Yes, you're right! It's about time, huh?
And I also owe you some photos...I promise I'll post some soon! I have to get my act together and post them at Saltvattensguiden!
On the one hand, it's good to have so much time to chew over and digest what it is you want to do. I've gone back and forth on soooo many decisions, but through the process I've learned even more. But, I'm getting impatient now, so it's time to move forward.
My friend will be back from vacation next week, so I think we'll be starting then with the plumbing....
Okay...it's time to do a quick update on some of the newest equipment.
My husband recently came back from a trip to Germany with several pieces of equipment. Germany seems to have a greater selection and better prices than here in Scandinavia, so we try to take advantage of our frequent trips down there.
As some of you know, I spent several months debating what sort of calcium supplementation to use - Kalkwasser, Calcium Reactor, Kalkwasser Reactor, Balling Method, etc. I finally decided that for the size of this aquarium, it felt less intimidating to go with a Calcium Reactor. I couldn't imagine the volumes of Kalkwasser that I would have had to mix up for this tank. So, we'll try this out and see how it goes.
We decided on a Schuran Calciumreactor Jetstream 1:
Further info:
For aquaria up to 3000l
etstream-Reactor with cartridge construction, mounted on board together with large volumed BubbleCount. The volume of the cartridge is 2,5 l.
The reactor can be hung outside the filtersump. The Jetstream is the first calciumreactor ever build for which a performance diagram is available !
Delivery complete with bubble counter BubbleCount and pump Eheim 1250 mounted on the board.
Performance Diagram:
Here you can see the capabilities of the Jetstream reactor to dissolve calciumcarbonate as calciumhydrogencarbonate. Therefore the following parameters were measured: Outflow, numbers of carbondioxide bubbles and degrees of hydrogencarbonate. The Merck-test hydrogencarbonate was used for the titration test. To achieve exact results the outflow water of the reactor was measured after a dilution which osmosis water. Every titration-test gives exact results only until reaching the level of 20°KH. The sample´s result of the titration has to be multiplied with the factor of dilution.
How to read the diagram:
Four of the values belong together. For example: If 120 bubbles/min are pressed into the reactor at an outflow of 120ml/min, one can reach an upgrading of hydrogencarbonate of 17 degrees, in other words these are 57,6 upgraded liters/h. These values however are dependent on the surface of the coral sand and its quality.
Five-Stage SpectraPlus 2000™ Systems - 90gallon - Spectrapure
SpectraPure® SpectraPlus 2000™ RO/DI Systems incorporate our 98% rejection membranes which have the highest rejection available. 98% rejection membranes remove twice as much silica, phosphates, and nitrates as 96% rejection membranes. Used in combination with our SilicaFree™ and chloramine removal deionizing cartridges, this system provides the ultimate removal of algae promoting substances, including colloidal silica, and the longest deionizing cartridge life, significantly reducing the cost of operation. This is water purification at its best, an RO/DI system designed to continuously produce economical ultra-pure water.
This super capacity DI system consists of a newly developed color-indicating SilicaFree™ Cartridge, with twice as much phosphate/silica removal resin as in previous designs. When the resin changes color upon exhaustion, the SilicaFree™ Cartridge should be removed and replaced with a new cartridge before any contaminants can be passed on to the next stage. The final stage consists of a chloramine removal cartridge, with an electronic purity monitor to determine the exhaustion point.
SpectraPlus 2000™ Systems are equipped with the finest pre-filtration 0.5 micron MicroTec™ pre-filters, and 20,000 gallon chlorine capacity carbon block pre-filters. Clear filter housings and a standard pressure gauge provide better visibility of system performance. No more guessing about plugged pre-filters. Also included is a filter wrench and a 3/4” garden hose adapter.
