I would love to see a video of that Tunze in action. I have never been able to see one of those actually flowing. Is a like chaos in the tank or is it more like a wave?

I guess it depends on how you set up the programming and also how long your tank is. I think that for this tank, it would be easier to set up waves, because the tank is 6 ft long; however, for the 125g I've set it up to interval flow, which means that it's more of a random (not necessarily chaotic!) flow. Pump 1 runs at 30%, Pump 2 intervals between 30% and 100% in 1.5s spurts and then the pumps switch every 30 minutes (or if you want it like the normal tide, every 6 hours). It's pretty cool...you can program it basically however you'd like. And you can run anywhere between 2-8 pumps.
If I had a vidcam I'd make a video for you, but I can't help you there. Sorry....

okay, we got some more of the plumbing done last night and drew up the dimensions for the sump, refugium, top-off water and saltwater basin. I'm having them all made out of acrylic, in order to help with weight issues. I also have very specific dimensions under the counter that I'd like to take advantage of, in terms of the top off and saltwater. I want them to be as big as possible and utilizing the space as efficiently as possible...hence the acrylic.

Here's the dimensions: (all metric)
1. Sump 70L X 60W X 60H 250liters
2. Top-off water 60L X 40W X 70H 168liters
3. Salt water 55L X 50W X 80H 220liters
4. Refugium 70L X 40W X 60H 168liters

Most of the plumbing is finished now - I just need to wait a week or so for these acrylic babies to be made and then we can finish off the plumbing. I'll try to get some pictures taken tonight to show you where we've gotten.

Also, the painter has been ordered for finishing up some spackle work around our windows and to spackle in around the metal framing that's over the drywall, so hopefully the outside of the aquarium room will look "finished" soon as well!

see you...

Wow, RB, this is going to be one mega reef! You tackled the plumbing without even one consult too. I'm impressed!

Let's see some pics.

Well, I have to admit that I didn't do it on my own! My friend, Jörgen, used to have his own reef shop and he's been invaluable for me getting both of my tanks set up. You know, we can't even get pressurized PVC here in Sweden without special ordering it, which he's able to do through his work. I kind of just stood there and offered support and made suggestions as to what special things I'd like to have and how I'd like the flow and return to work and he just worked the magic. I always try to feed him a good dinner though, before he heads back out the door!

I'm working on a huge grant at the moment that's due on Tuesday, and I'm going to a Capoeira workshop over the weekend, but I hope to find a few spare moments to take some pics, upload them and show you guys!

What do they say about patience?! This has got to be the slowest design of an aquarium - EVER!!! well...I can only hope that practice makes perfect!

Yesterday we got all the plumbing finished for the sink that we installed in the work room. We hooked up the RO/DI system to the sink and my husband installed some nifty little switches for me to switch back and forth between the water sources. We had to drill a couple of holes in to the wall for the waste water, but luckily the room right behind the work room is our bathroom, so we made a line that empties out into the shower. So, today was the first day of using the new RO/DI system. We've measured everything and have a 4:1 ratio, which is perfect for this system. The TDS meter reading the water going in is at 95, but it's ZERO once it's gone through both of the DI filters at the end, so we're set to go! Today will be the first water change on the 550l reef using the new RO/DI system. I'll be keen to see some changes in my tank, especially since we've only ever had RO water up 'til now.
