Dk'one's 180g Death Tank

Here are a couple of pictures I worked on today of my tank for our club. The first is the center section, the second a FTS ... alas, my camera is pretty old and worn out and I had to picasso the pictures to correct for color. Will try to get a left and right shot then use autostitch to sew them into a panoramic view. I did take a bunch of pics of the corals, fish etc, will try to upload those later.

Warm Regards,

(center)

Yes, it is an aussie, Amphiprion ocellaris (Black and White Australian clownfish). He is 3 years old now. I once had a mated pair. Sadly one died after 18 months - vanished without trace. Now 'Herbert" is alone - I keep thinking of getting him another mate, perhaps one day I shall. He defends that sarcrophyton alcyonidae leather vigorously though is otherwise a good citizen of the tank. He once lived in a large RBTA (rose bubble tip anemone with his mate "Martha"). Sadly, my RBTA collection (i had 5 at one point, 4 offspring and their mother) perished along with most of the tank v2. A lesson in regular maintenance, water changes and keeping up with trace element additon and patience.

The DeathTank V3 water parameters, from AWT, as of 1/23/08.

Ammonia NH3-4 0.004
Nitrite N02 0.004
Nitrate N03 0.4
Phosphate P04 0.26
Silica Si02-3 0.8
Potassium K 321
Calcium Ca 292
Boron B 3.9
Molybdenum Mo 0.3
Strontium Sr 6.9
Magnesium Mg 1021
Iodine I- 0.03
Copper Cu++ 0.03
Alk meg/L 3.17

The good:
Nitrates are down (from 1.2).
Silicates are coming down (from 2.5) and Mg levels going up (from 888).

The bad:
Phosphates are still high, though hopefully thePhosban reactor(s) added a week will now help reduce this - also have begun a regimie of rinsing food and reducing form 4 feedings a day down to 2 feedings a day (I work on the feed less, but feed often mindset)

Calclum has dropped - will have to buffer that one back up.
Potassium has gone down, likely a result of starting up the fuge and adding chaeto (which is growing like crazy).

Not too bad, still work to be done, as always, it takes time !!!

Beautiful John. All those sticks your friends keep sticking in your tank will suck up Ca. By the way, Mg & Ca are related (and inversely related to alk) so you should endeavor to raise them simultaneously.

I confess, we Brits made a tragic error when we stuffed all our riff-raff onto a boat and posted them to Aussie land. 200+ years later, now the darn Aussie's won't even let us into our own country, they beat us at most of the sports we taught them, they beat the world at swimming (not a surprise, most are practising on how to swim home to the motherland of England!). I appologise on behalf of the glorious British Empire for this monstrousity known as Australia we brought into being. Ahh well, perhaps we can just swap Islands, you can have ours, we can have yours ? eh ? fair trade ?

Warm Regards!

Wouldn't the Queen or Parliament or the PM or somebody have to agree about this? Or can you two just make a gentleman's agreement?

*COUGH COUGH* Gentlemen *COUGH COUGH*

I am a true blue Brit, ok, not so true blue as I fled my homeland and arrived here in the States 7 years ago!. He is a descendant of convicts, packed off to a far away Island, who somehow managed to survive the horrors of the new land. I am sure he has a whole school of convict tangs in his tank as well !!! We shall never come to an agreement ! and YES, we shall take back the Ashes once more, the Bodyline series was a fair cop and you just got upset at loosing the game and burned the stumps! Bleh ! Carmie, you have no idea

/GRIN
