40gal Tru-Vu Project....

Well the ADDICTION continues.... .
I just picked up my Tru-Vu 40gal Acrylic tank today from my LFS.
I also picked up 2- 20lb bags of LS. This weekend I will pick up some
non LS & make sure it's silicate free. Will pick up some base rock
& some LR. I will tear down eventualy our 5.5gal & use some of the LR & LS from there too. I won't tear it down until the 40gal is cycled. I have a couple of stock in there. I already have the skimmer & the SCWD (Thanks to TR & ROB). Placing an order for a Mag Drive pump for the SCWD. Will pick up the MH, RO water & Bio-Spira this weekend also. I will post pics as soon a s I get a chance.
.....Whew....It's the addiction I tell ya!!!!

-John

....here are some pics of the tank in it's bare form...

...here's my Salty Cat...LOL

Yeah he's a cool LFS. He actually just re-located his store. In fact he did not even bother charging me tax. I bought the tank & 2- 20lb live sand for a total of $150 out the door. I told him that if he continues to give me good deals I would rather give him my business instead of going online.

I just bought another bag of LS. so far i have 60lbs of it. Is that enough for a 40gal tank, or do I need more. I don't want it to be a DSB, more like a SSB, but not too shallow :-)

Also...are those airsoft or real in the background...if real, keep them away from the tank! I know the hard phosphorous coating on the AR's is tough, and are usually used in rough conditions...but SW is really hard on guns! Especially if the barrel is hard chrome lined! Just thinking...you don't realize how much splashing your reef makes until you check the wall behind your tank or your hood! (it's kind of amazing...you can even never spill and you'll get some salt on the stuff around your tank!)

Although considering you're in CA, I think they're probably airsoft....should have checked that before...sorry
And...nice tank and a great price! Was the tank used? That seems like a really great price for that tank with eurobracing. good deal from the lfs! Gotta love getting a good working relationship with a LFS!

Jeep,
That's not the permanent home for my tank. I still have to clear out an area where I can make it it's permanent home. It's a new tank. Yeah I will be supporting my LFS more. As for the AR, it's a pre-ban that I got a while back from a private party. So I was one of the few others who got lucky before the clamp down. Since I'm in CA no full auto or burst.

I just ordered Salifert Test kits. At the moment I'm using Hagen test kits & I know Rob does not like it....;-) Yesterday I also went to Home Depot & got 3 GFCI power lines to make sure my MH will be safe from any unforseen accident.

..Just added:
AC110 Mech Filter- which I will mod & make it a HOB mini fuge. Will put some LS & LR rubble, & some macro Algae. I've done a smaller version on my 12gal & it works great.

Starting to get some location plans for my hardware. I was going to set the SCWD unit in the center of the tank. As you can see the whole unit will be submerged & I'm looking for ways to have it fixed in the center. I was thinking of making a eggcrate pedestal for the Pump & SCWD unit. Any other ideas on how to secure the unit would help.

TIA
John

John, tank looks great. Sounds like you have a good plan going for your setup too. As for the AR....does any state allow full or burst? LOL Would love to get me an AR, just no $$$ for it now. Was at a shoot last year and an officer brought their M-16...was that a blast going through a 30 round clip on full auto and shooting bursts! Never really got to shoot those that much while I as in the Air Force.

In your diagram for the SCWD, I'm understanding you will have the pump and SCWD in the tank...meaning the dark blue is the surface water? If so, that's sort of neat...no hose, just having the output blow from the center back of the tank to the sides? If I'm understanding this correctly?

Hey Scott..Thx. I'm picking up some lights & LR & base rock this weekend. I just got some tie straps & some eggcrate to get ready for the build this weedend.
In Las Vegas & , Oregon I know for sure they allow full auto & Burst. I went awhile back to one of the "Full Auto" shootout. It was nuts..all you can smell is gun powder. Had a chance to try out a Belt fed HK-G3.
As for my SCWD yes it will all be submerged. I might add a little angled pvc pipe at the outlet so that I can re-direct the flow a little.

Forgot to say I liked the "cat fish" you had. LOL

There was this video on video.google that is great...can't remember the name or link. But it was some club/range in Oklahoma I believe and showed this little girl having a blast with some tripod mounted machine guns. Then later in the video they showed a car rolling down range and everyone just opening up on it, eventually blew up.

Anyways...back to "fishy stuff".....I've been debating about a SCWD and pulling the two powerheads out of my tank. I think it would give me a better alternating flow than what I can accomplish with my two power heads. Of course, I'd probably stick it outside the tank and just put some pipe inside. But when I finally do go out and get a larger tank....I will keep you in tank idea in my head.
