Thanks Shawn for posting the website! It must be new, because when I contacted them awhile back, they didn't have anything for the US yet.
I can give a personal account of the IKS system soon. We've bought the Base Control Unit. . Once the tank is set-up and running, then I can let you guys know what I think I of it!
No, we actually ordered through Germany, so we got the rebate through them. We got the unit for free, basically. We just have to buy the probes, plugs, etc. It's still a pretty good deal. We're hooking our auto-top off up with this system and we will use a peristaltic pump, rather than a normal pump, so I suppose even if we used Kalkwasser in our top-off, we won't need to worry about calcerous build-up in the pumps...
I even went to the German site and couldn't find it. I figured I could have one of our German exchange students order it and ship it here and still save $$$.
Carmie, I'll check for you tonight when I get home. I know that the rebate was only for a limited time or a limited number of them that they were selling like that. It was also a rotating image window on the site and you kind of have to sit and wait for it to roll to the ad for it. I'll check it out though and see if it's still available! :-)
Okay....if you go to the German site, then click on the aquastar logo of "Aquarientechnik". Then click on "Basissystem" in the third list of stuff. You should end up here. Then, look over to the right...you'll see a picture of the system, with a phrase above that says "Null-Euro-Aktion...mehr lesen" - click here. You should end up here.
So, if you're able to order it within Germany and have someone ship it to you, that's the best. It doesn't work for it to be ordered and shipped outside of Germany. You have to print out the fax "Bestellformular", fill it out and then usually a fish store in Germany will order for you. If you have someone in Germany that can take care of that for you, that's the best. I can suggest a really good, reliable shop that we order a lot of our stuff from and he actually did the same thing with the IKS system for us. We ordered it through him and then he shipped it to us.
So, just in case you don't have anyone to translate the fine print for you, here's the gist of it: You get the iks system for 4 years without having to buy it. But, you pay a "deposit" of 130€ for the larger system or 105€ for the midi. I think you also pay 26€/year for hot-line support, updates and customer service. After 4 years the system belongs to you, provided they keep the deposit, otherwise you can hand it back to them. You're not obligated to anything. You can give it back to them at any time and get your deposit back.
Hope that helped Carmie! I didn't see that same offer on the US site....
