Christi, be careful ingesting my words of wisdom while toasting with a "dirty" martini. That could be dangerous. You might transpose a few words and not realize it. I have to ask you, what is a "dirty" martini?
Tanqueray gin, dry vermouth, olive juice, plus some olives garnishes!!!! I guess it's called "Dirty" due to the cloud caused from the olive juice. My brother got me hooked on them.
Ok, thats what I kinda thought. When I was a kid my Mom, Dad and two older brothers drank martinis with olives and a touch of the juice (Not Tangueray gin though). Dad was of the thinking that his children could taste his drink somewhere around the age of 13. By the time I was sixteen he allowed me to have a full martini. At eighteen and partying with friends everyone knew I favored martinis and would see to it I had the mixings. All of them would wrinkle up their noses at the thought. I drank martinis into my mid twenties when I developed a sweet tooth in alcohol. Haven't had one in all those years. May have to get a bottle of Tangueray. I understand it is the best gin.

Hi Laura, thank you. Yes, this tank has been quite a project. It's the first one I ever posted on a public forum. It's been fun, even the painful portions.
I'm glad you found the pictures. I'm very pleased with my purchases. They have settled in and are looking good.
I knew your "lump" would one day blossom. I'm happy you are happy. Under the right conditions colts can really expand in size. You'll be fragging off pieces and selling them soon.

It's going to happen, Laura. They sometimes take a long period of adjustment to new conditions. It's going to be a show piece.
I re-wrote that article about buying fish. It's new title is, "Nine Simple Rules". Here's the link - "Nine Simple Rules"
Check it out.

I was just reading it!! I love the SPA attitude! Great advice in there, you were sure busy writing THAT!!! I love it! i TRY TO RESEARCH eVERYTHING (ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THIS (sorry) hobby is the research! I was a bit unsure about hitting the frag show 'unarmed', because "great deals" but not a good place for research! I am SOOO glad that you OK'ed my colt, its beautiful!!! Did I tell you that I bought that clam that I wanted to haggle? He sold it to me for $20 as long as I bought something else (the acropora thread). Thank you for being such an inspiration and mentor!

The Following User Says Thank You to laurabolyard For This Useful Post:
Thank you Laura. Very happy as a mentor. I've had my share of them, too. You didn't tell me you bought the clam but, I knew because you were down on the floor (both knees) examining the clams closely. Dillon was right there with you so I figured one was going to find a new home. You were very occupied with the process so, I just slipped out the door and left. I'm glad you got one. Clams are cool and beautiful.

Next to reefing, I like photography. Mixing the two is a natural. I shoot a Nikon D70 with a Nikon 18-70mm lens, UV lens cover. Not being able to afford the Macro lens I want, I opted for a set of 3 close up rings, a x1, x2 and x4, which gives me a wide choice of options for Macro shots. I also have a Nikon 70-300mm zoom with an adapter ring for attaching the close-up rings for some really close macro shots, although it takes a rock steady hold to get them to turn out in focus. I need a good tripod.
Here are a few general shots around the tank.
My Desjardini Tang (Zebrasoma desjardinii)and Marine Beta (Calloplesiops altivelis) are about to meet.
They flare their fins and retreat back into the rocks. I keep two Marine Betas in the 135. When they meet each other there is a flashing of fins, a dash toward each other in a display of power and ZOOOM, there gone, in separate directions back to there respective hideouts. Of all the different fish I've kept over the years, the Marine Beta is the shyest. I have tried to get a shot of the two together but, when they are together it's for brief moments and usually I am not prepared with camera in hand. However, the other day I was at the computer with camera on my desk when IT happened.
There, parts of both in the same frame. The only time I've captured it.

Here are several more of the Marine Beta, Calloplesiops altivelis. Enjoy.
Probably the hardest shot to get of any fish is the head-on, like this.

It amazes me how differently clams look when viewed from horizontal and vertical. Here are two pics of the same Crocea clam.
The one above from straight on.
This shot was taken looking straight down. I turned off all flow into the tank to settle the surface water.
