Hi Christi, Thanks for the bottle trap idea. I knew I'd heard of something simple but couldn't think of it. I'll give that a try.
Looking forward to your e-mail.

awww that really sucks about your losses AMph (long time overdue sorry)
you know what I think, i think the crab is just a re-incarnated BLG jealous that his partner has found another goby. And that drove him to murder, and he randalls high fin just got caught in the cross-fire.
You don't have to say it, im a genious
but it does look like you will save those frags, and that is some excellent work on saving them if i do say so myself
Killer is caught in piece of LR at the top of the LR pile. I took his picture......
removed the rock and coaxed him from the hole he was hiding in into a dish. His body is black, legs, hairy, mottled brown and yellow. Looks a bit like an Emerald but black not green.
Even though he's cute, he's a killer. Now he resides in a container in the sump until I decide his fate. Don't want to kill him. Need to find him a home.

Thanks, Carmie. I'm afraid it was blind luck, mostly. I do pay very close attention to my tank, peering in all the time looking for cool things to photograph. The crab was under a flat frag rock barely visible. If he hadn't moved I might not have seen him. When he moved I looked closer and couldn't believe it was him. I wanted a picture first and foremost because at that moment I hadn't realized how easy it was going to be to get him.
I snapped two pictures and then it dawned on me, I could move the MH light fixture, if I could remove the frag rock without driving him deeper into the rock work, I could simply lift the rock from the aquarium. If I was lucky he'd hide within the rock and not move deeper and drop into the lower rock work. I got a bowl to catch water and him if he decided to vamoose. I lifted the rock, set it into the bowl, sat down at my desk and peered into the holes in the rock. Bingo, there he was hiding in a cave. I got my handy little pick and coaxed him out into the dish. He was mine! No more killing fish in my tank.

Absolutely, Carmie. One of my favorite past times. Here's another hitchhiker crab, one I like. I call this one - "Who is that Masked Crab"?
He was a total surprise. Didn't see him until the frag was in my tank for a bit.

Wow!! Congrats Dick! Good job getting the baddy out!
I can't believe you actually saw that other little crab! Do you think he came in with the frag?
Ah, yes. I'd like to say it was because of 59 years experience on my side or superior skill in out witting the "bad guy" but, I'm afraid I have to tell the truth, it was pure luck, my Dear, pure luck.
I'm sure the masked crab came in on the frag. It was about an hour after acclimating the frag that I could see this white "thing" with a black line through it. I got the camera out and took a picture and there he was. You must have experienced this phenomenon before, that the camera can "see" things barely visible or not recognizable to the naked eye. He's difficult to get a good shot of because the camera wants to focus on a coralite around him and he comes out a bit fuzzy much of the time.
Even though I have the D70 camera, capable of doing things far beyond my ability, I use it as a point and shoot on "auto" most of the time.

I'm having trouble posting the picture. I'll finish when I figure this out. Sorry.

Yes, Christi. In reply mood, I'll enter the url of the picture and it shows up in the message box. I click on "Preview Post" and it shows up there but, when I click "Submit Reply" it's not there in the actual post.
I sometimes have long names for my pictures and I'm wondering if there is a limit on name length. I've PMd Rob, waiting for reply. I was trying to post an update on the tiny frag I saved from bleaching. It was obvious I was going to lose this beautiful new Montipora undata frag. The bleaching was exremely fast so I immediately fragged it. I'll try to post it here, now to see what happens. Here goes...........
OK, it showes up in the "Reply to Thread" window. Now, I'll click the "Preview Post" button......OK, it showed up there, too. Now the real test, the submit button........
