15" cube

Ok well I’m starting a Nano at work, it’s a 15” cube ~12gal just ordered it and the pumps for it. Everything should be in by the weekend. I will be taking gravel form my display and some LR from a tank with no life in it (except the rock) I will mainly be using it to grow out some smaller coral frags and maybe a clown or 2 and some sexy shrimp. It will have a Rio 600 RVT (rejuvenating venturi) Powerhead/Pump for the skimmer and a Rio 800 Powerhead/Pump for the return. The light is Coralife 2 x 18 PC it came with it so no need to buy a MH till later.

More to come!

Seahorsedreams will become famous soon enough
That's a sweet little tank! We are setting up an office tank but can't decide what to put in it so we can't pick a tank yet.

this is fantastic, how many people have started a tank at work, esspecially in the last month. Once an idea starts rolling, momentum continues to expand.
sweet design to PP.

Angry Nightmare!!

Ok one word to describe this cube. NIGHTMARE!!!! Ok I got it and the pumps in on the same day. That was GREAT! Do I unpacked everything and read all the instructions.

Now comes the assembly. So put the return pump in and started to fill……. And fill………. And fill……. Ok It’s full so I turn the return on and what happens? it’s starts to overfill!!!!!! The overflow is too small to let the water volume pass.

I put the control valve in and try again. Then the pump sounds like it’s going to fall apart!!! Next I get out the rotary tool and cut and cut. No problem! Now It works fine. I have some mesh I can put in front.

I run to the hardware store and get some tubing to connect the skimmer. I hook it up and I get micro bubbles EVERYWHERE! I think I can fix this. I cut some foam off my overflow strainer and place it at the bottom of the skimmer. AND Still I have bubbles so I place foam at the top where you can put a carbon bag and STILL bubbles!!!!!! So now the skimmer is being used as a heater holder.

Now the light! It’s HOT HOT HOT I don’t even heed a heater while it’s on it keeps the tank at a toasty 80 deg. in a 69 deg. House my office is at 72-75 deg. Now I guess I need a chiller for it. Aaggggghhhh………

Any suggestions for the bubbles will be a great help. Otherwise I have a prism that I’m going to use on it till I figure it out.

it looks like youve tried to cover all bases to begin with, makes me feel sorry for the dog act the tanks putting you though. i wouldn't have antisipated so much heat from the size of the lights, you have leg stands & acrliclic bases which gives the hight alright. an easy way is to attach a clip on fan, or have a free standing fan unit near by blowing over it. or you can get technical, design a computer fan to extract from the top with intake holes at ether end of the lighting unit.

as for the skimmer, i couldn't quite see it well, are you able to turn the skimmer the other way so the output is on the other side?
If not, a slanted peice of acrylic across the return power head will be a last resort.
keep in mind, depending on what you keeping, you might not even need a skimmer.

good luck.
