Hi explosif! mine's in progress..i just ordered my 90 gals tank, sump and other stuff last saturday. The shop will deliver it and set -it up maybe this week or next week..... i still have to plan a design for the aquarium cabinet / bookshelf.. my plan is to put the holes on the left side of the tank, put some fans for the sump and light canopy..

anybody here who knows better?.. hey, i'm here to learn.

Hi Clariza,

to TR. I don't know anything about woodworking but there are some people here who have made beautiful cabinets and I am sure they will chime in shortly.

Welcome to TR I hope you enjoy your stay

I have yet to find any good sites with good ideas on them. I think the biggest thing is not everyone is the same in how they want there stand to be. If i were you i would lay own all my options and then post it here and we can give you some advise Here are a few suggestions

1. Remember that water weighs roughly 8 pounds per gallon so for a 90gal tank you will have a tank that weighs more than 720 pounds so the stand has to stand up to even more. You figure in 60-90 pounds of sand and then maybe 150 pounds of live rock give or take and you already have 960 pounds. So the stand will have to be stable in strength and stable in the swaying motion.

2. After the stand is completed make sure you treat it with some outdoor water resistant stain. There will be water getting on it.

3. Remember to always have a six pack + during the duration of the build. If you are old enough of course.

Here is a question for you.

Where will the sump be located? Are you thinking about a sump on one side and the book shelf on the other?

Hope this helps a little in your search.

Wow, the second one would be a great way to integrate your tank into your room.

i'd like to use the metal stand for the aquarium. i want to "dress up" or let's say.. i'd like to give it a "make-over" and make it more like a room divider and bookcase at the same time. the bookcase can be attached to the aquarium. with this set-up, i'm putting the sump/refugium under the main tank. since it will be a divider, the pvc pipes will be at the sides of the tank..
the electricals... well... if you look closely at my drawings: the lighting, fan, sump placement are there.. i need some inputs if this design is ok or,.. is there a better way to put the fan, lights and all the stuff?...

Yea i love the second one as well. i think that would be awesome..

The electicals are fairly simple, its basicly whereever you need them to be and with a drip loop in them. Your light will take up 3-4 and you will need room for the timers that sometimes only one will take up a hole outlet. and then for the rest its usually suggested to keep away from the bottom near the sump and up high and away from salt creap. Ill see if i can take your plans and draw out a quick layout for you for the power if you want of course

I dont know the area but i would say a hardware store. Or if you can get them offline i would look at the external water proof garden light timers.

I will try and have you a suggested layout tomorrow sometime if thats ok.

Hi clariza,

Nice setup, I like your draw.

If this was my setup, I would do couple of things a little different, I would have a 3 sides view for the tank, I would not drill the tank on its left side all the holes would be on the right side of the tank( for the drain and 2 returns), and the return for the left side I would run a PVC pipe inside of the canopy.
The canopy, i would add couple of doors so you can have a easy access to the tank, I would install 1 fan on left side (on a 18" side) blowing the air in and another one on the top of the canopy sucking the air out.
the fans for the sump looks ok where you have it.
The electrical I would do exactly what WWEST suggested keep it way from the sump, you could eliminate the first book shelve on the right and make that as a "electrical panel area" also dont forget that eventually you will need space for something like Ca reactor, kalk reactor and etc..a good place would be on the right side of the cabinet up higher at the same level of the tank.

Other then that I
