Well, i've gotten all the bits for making my stand now, and as soon as we get better weather, i'll get some power tools off a friend and start the actual build. I've got a week or so to get the stand ready to take the weight of an empty tank (or have the tank sit on my floor a few days)
I ordered my tanks from a local tank manufacturer a couple of days ago. a 48 x 18 x 18 with 6" corner weir, 1.5" drain and 1" return line. a 36 x 12 x 15 sump, which i'm gonna use with water level around 12", giving me some room for the water in the lines.

i'm using the plans from 75 Gallon Aquarium Stand but modifying them slightly, i want my tank a couple of inches higher, so the legs will be longer, other than that it's the same. (well, i'm not having doors, just removable panels, but you'll see that later.)

Good deal Georgia... keep us posted. Gustavo and I could, typically be lured into such projects, but I can't see us getting to Scotland any time soon.... THOUGH... large quantities of "Fraoch's Heather Ale" may make it worth the flight

weather isn;t looking good for the next few days, however, i've blagged the use of a friend's garage with electrickery in, as mine doesn't, unfortunately. hoping to get started after work tomorrow, get it glued up after work on sunday and the finishing touches on tuesday when i'm off, in time for the tank getting delivered on friday
just about finished the stand build now, some photos later. stopped for something to eat.
since i've got an unexpected day off tomorrow, i'll get the last bits done then, followed by varnishing.
couple of last little bits to get, as i discovered i've lost the magnets for holding the doors on. hopefully the stand will be ready for the tank arriving at the weekend.
then things go on hold for two or three weeks, while i round up some more money.
well, here's the work so far, given up for tonight, just to add shelf for the sump, aome trim to hide the nastiness round the edges, and some thing to fill in teh holes where doors should be, then i'm ready for the tanks
