Well...I'm back to a 10 gallon tank...new aquascape, and now livestock! The 16 gallon was too big.....and I could be getting a second tank, so I though, one 10 and one 12 is better than one 16! SO...moved the tank down to the 10. Could one of the mods maybe change the title of this thread to "Jeepjon's 10 gallon Nano"....Pretty please??? I'll be good until Christmas! I promise!

Anyway...The livestock. I traded my mag 3.5 (had split intake threads, but worked fine for anything but inline use) for a hairy mushroom, one green striped mushroom, one bright green/blue mushroom, a toadstool leather, a kenya tree leather, orange zoos, green/red polyps, green star polyps, and some yellow/green zoos. I also picked up some fish...$15 got me three fish from a hobbyist who was taking down his tank (I know it's a lot for the 10 gallon right now...but I may take two of them out...gotta decide). I have two pajama cardinals and a saddleback clown now. Not too shabby I'd say for the price I paid.

SO..can't wait to post some pictures...maybe try to use some of the tips and tricks from the last podcast to take a few FTS's of the aquascape and the corals. I REALLY like my new aquascape...lots of caves, VERY open and great for planting some corals! Just keeping you updated and teasing you before posting pictures.
Thanks,
Jon

Thanks for changing the thread title! I am enjoying this tank: To update: Today was the Frag Swap...and I picked up: 1 Torch Coral, 1 Frogspawn, 1 pocillopora, 6 small frags of Xenia, 1 medium/large-ish sinularia, one 4 line wrasse, six astrea snails, one turbo snail. I got rid of the pajama cardinals: Total Fish now: 1 saddleback clown and 1 4 line wrasse: I think for now, my tank is stocked! In the future, I would maybe like to add a deresa clam...but that will wait for a while. It is now time to care for and grow my tank! Pictures to come once everything settles!

All of the corals are still growing, with the exception of the xenia! It has one little tiny hand! That is all that survived. BUT....it is starting to grow! Everything is growing, actually.

I've been using the 3 part DIY supplement that was in the Reefkeeping article a few months back. It is doing well. I've been using it since the start of the tank, and i just upped the dose as my CA was about 410ppm and my alk was 3.3...but they were SLOWLY dropping...probably as the organism start to rev up their metabolisms and growth (In addition to the corraline algae that is starting to grow all over! I have about 20-30 speckles on the glass, lots of growth on my plastic pieces (heater, powerhead, etc...)

Seems like everyone is happy and healthy so far!

Just thought I'd give you an update.

All right...a few updates.

Tank completely crashed. I had a large problem with heating and cooling (far beyond what I had queried about before). To make a long story short, I think a chain reaction occured. I lost my fish and all the corals. The tank overheated to a HUGE extent (88°F) for a long time (probably about 8 hours). I had left the windows and deck door open all night, and left for the day, not telling my wife to close them. It got up to high eighties that day, and the rest is history. I think That it stressed everything, and as that started happening, a few things died (a few snails?), basically tank went into a downward spiral that my water changes and close eye couldn't help.

Back to the drawing boards as of now...

I hate that feeling of regret...just knowing I shouldn't have left the doors open.

Just gotta keep on...

I'll keep you guys posted.

-Jon

Tank will be new once again. I just have to decide if I need to completely start anew, or try and salvage this one. I am completely covered in algae, and I don't know what to do at this point.

Boards (step I) has been occupying most of my time (take the test tomorrow). I have been so busy studying.

In all honesty I'll probably start a new tank once I move in August. There are no corals and fish right now. A few snails...some algae...probably a lot of pods....so not sure what is left to salvage

Let us know if you want our help with anything. We can give pointers on the algae- takes work and time, but you can get it out.

Sounds like waiting until after you move would be a good option. It's not too far away. But for now, you can get the HA out and after the move, you will be ready to pick up where you left off.

Best of luck to you on the tests! Let us know how that goes.
