OK I'm starting to get ready to start this project. Here's a look at the number of boxes involved in getting a broken nano tank and a replacement.
I need to move my critters to temporary housing. I figure live sand in one bucket, live rock and fish in another. I'll put all of my frags in the QT for the duration. That should acclimate them to the MH's while they are in there. Anyway one of my frags is an Acropora Millepora from ORA. They come on large plastic plugs that fit well in my big base rock. But there's nothing in the QT for them to sit in. So I came up with this stand:
Knop's Clam book arrived today from Amazon. From skimming through the book it looks like there is very in-depth information about clams. So I have some heavy reading to do.
One empty 55 gallon tank. One Full 10 Gal tank. Two full Rubbermaid tubs. One Empty 24 Gallon Aquapod. Live rock and fish are in the tub on the right. Sandbed is in the tub on the left. See Gwen, Bare Bottom Tanks. LOL

My sticks in the 10 Gal QT. Left to Right Acropora Millepora, Pocillopora, Montipora Digitata. The Acro and Monti were damaged in the "incident" a few months back, but they are recovering nicely. The Monti slimed a lot when I transfered him to this tank.
The green and orange Zoanthids doing a little better now in QT. I think they like the halide better than the PC's.
Tomorrow I buy 6 11.5" X 14" sheets of glass to turn the 55 into a fuge. Then I start framing the stand for the Nano.
That 10g tank on a TV tray does look daring though!!
No kidding. I couldn't find anything else to sit it on. The new stand will have a place for it underneath. Hopefully it'll be ok for a few days until I can get in moved in there. I have to build the thing first.
Hopefully the cycle won't last for too long and I can get them back in the new tank. Everything is pre-cured and from my old tank so the cycle should be minimal.
This is my first acrylic tank. How do you clean one of these without scratching it? I've heard the credit card technique but is there something better?
i have never had acrylic so i cant comment to that, but with a tank transfer, you will cycle, it should be minor, but it will cycle, make sure you give it a few weeks, and watch for the diatom bloom..
you prolly wont ready much on the test kits.. but just be aware...

Crud! My bulkhead's delivery has been rescheduled for the 13th. I was hoping I'd have this thing up and running over the weekend. Grrrr! Oh well I guess I can get everything else ready. The sump can cycle on it's own without a display tank hooked up to it. I'll just run the return pump back to the overflow side.

When we moved last year, I had no choice but to move everything into buckets and bags for the day and then get the tank set-up again in the new house, get the water and rock and the animals in again. I didn't really notice much of a cycle, even without the sand having been put back in. But, then again, I'm sure it could happen!

im sure he (and you) will go through some minor cycle.. would it be big, or even noticable probably not.. even in jims case, it will likely be barely noticeable if noticeable at all.. i only bring it up so he can watch out for it, and expect that if he runs into any temprary diatom or cyano, it may be attributed to a mini-cycle. i do not think it would be enough to where he (or you) would need to leave the tank for weeks to "cycle"
