thanks guys. its kinda easy for me to be patient cause im kinda too lazy to go get fish. and i have to bother my mom for a ride. since that picture i have gotten another chromis. probably one more then i will move onto other fish
and its been yet another long month since an update!!!
well i ahve tons of great news ..and a little bit of bad news!
soo first of all..my tank is doing well... i can my frog and hammer splitting heads and growing small and tiny new ones. all of my mushrooms are growing crazy..and my xenia..=( is growing too much so i had to completely take it all of one rock and trim another. the coraline is growing like crazy now too! i was able to frag some of my zoos and put it on the other side of the tank.
AND I GOT A SUMP/FUGE!!!!! for my above tank sump project which i will make a thread specifically for that! and also!!!
DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!! jvmnfhjfhasjkfheuahvjkhbajkfhdjkahfds
THERES NOW A FISH IN MY DISPLAY TANK!!!!! ROFL i finally moved the chomis after about a month of quarantine up to the main tank. it seems so tiny in my relatively big tank. but surprisingly i can still feed it without dumping the entire bottle of food in! you probably cant see it in my tank shot.
and another drum roll PLEASE!!!!! kljfdklajfkldjfkldavklafjg
i got a FIRE FISH?!?!?!?
yup i got the biggest on at the store that ate and looked the best. and it went right into my qt
and then comes the bad news.....today..when i woke up ..at 145 pm.. Lol..HEY i had a 3 hour group job interview yesterday!!! i hope i get that job..its working at an aquarium...but anyway.. i heard some funny noises from my tank. it sounded like a fish flopping around. and of course my reaction was *@#%$# fire fish are jumpers...but i have a lid on my qt..it cant be.
so i check my qt..look around $#@$ dont see the firefish...i looked in all the PVC piping caves..nowhere to be found. my instant instinct is to look around my stand since thats where my qt is. i dont really see it around the tank. meanwhile i hoping i just missed him in the tank. then i look in front of the qt..sure enough he is there flipping with his gills all the way out...so i went into panic and got him back in asap. and he at first rolled around like he was dead..then he got lively and swam to the PVC cave and stayed there till around 10 pm when i found him outside dead.....yes i am very sad. i had him for a good week and a half and he was doing sooo wellll.. i am i in SHOCK he jumped out. i knew he was a jumper, but there wasnt much space to jump out of..and that space was in the back of the tank..so why was he all the way in front? but now i know..
USE THAT EXTRA PIECE IF YOURE USING THE SAME GLASS LID!!
before this happened i wasnt using it...and the fish jumped out where i circle in the picture..
i am off to the fish store tomorrow to buy another firefish with this new knowledge in my mind
sorry to hear you lost one. i didn't see the chalk outline on the floor, where did it land?
is that your new cover section im seeing to prevent surfing in future?
lol too lazy to draw on the picture! he fell in the back and flopped to the front. but yeah i added on that extra top..before i didnt have the back part of the lid ..i assumed he wouldnt be able to jump through there
Your tank is looking good. I am glad to see you are following QT protocols. You are doing a wonderful job. You are patient, conscientiousness and great example to everyone here.
Yep - it's tough to loose a fish. And Firefish are beauties!
I am glad to see how well your tank is progressing. It appears that you are having the same problem / situation with your Xenia - the stuff grows like a weed. Though it's really easy to frag (thanks to Rob's video podcast!) If you haven't tried it - go for it. It's a little smelly (like clams) but very cool. I gave my whole first batch to friends, and they loved it.
Good luck. Oh - and MAJOR kudos on the QT tank. Way to go.
thanks a lot guys. i just got back from the fish store with a new fire fish in hand. the owner almost scolded me " Mark i told you they would jump out if you dont have a good cover"
Danamck,
i gave a lot of my xenia to a friend who is starting a fowlr and thought hed give it a try. i also donated some to the academy of sciences. i dont know if you know of them. theyre a science museum in sf with an aquarium. in 2008 when they move back to golden gate park, theyre supposed to have the biggest coral reef in the western hemisphere. so i look forward to seeing tons of my xenia in a public attraction =)
he is actually really small compared to what ive seen. he is about 3.5 inches. i really like him. the weird thing is he started to rest near the powerfilter intake, and it looked like he got sucked in cause his directly against it and it looked like he couldnt get out of it. i was wondering if he was doing that to rest or what, because i have never seen a fish get stuck against a filter intake like thatand not look sickly.
