Done deal then.. how big a tank should I use? I'll drill it and make it part of my new project. There are plenty of folks in BRS who get them as hitch hikers and want to banish them. I could get one quite easily methinks...

Are there any "hitch hiker type" of mantis that I DON'T want?

David, I would really look for a peacock because if their interactivity. Our chiragra is not nearly as interactive. Never get a smasher because they don't like to be out in the open either. It would be an awful boring tank to view if you never see the little guy. Our peacock comes up to the water surface whenever we walk infront of the tank. The closer you get to the tank, the closer he comes to you.

A long 20 gallon would be heaven for them.

That will do just fine. Whether it be acrylic or glass.

*busts out the measuring tape to compare to her own tanks*

That will be just fine.

Why am I excited over you getting a mantis....lol. Probably because we can then we can talk all day about our Mantis'. But get the peacock David, you won't regret it. Sometimes I like to get something a little different than the "most popular model" but there is no comparison with looks and activity.

David, On the back glass of the tank i see you have a bulk head hole, ( so im assuming) I am assuming that it is for the return. Since the hole is so low compared to the top of the tank how will that work with return siphon to the sump?

Hmmmm...didn't get any notifications of action on my thread...have to check my settings...

Wes.... it will drain/siphon until it gets to that return nozzle, wich will have a tiny drill hole in it, but yes, a lot of water will drain before the siphon is broken. In my case, no harm, no foul because I have a 75G sump...if that overflows, I'm building an ark! However, it should be a concern for others with smallish sumps.

Marc, welcome aboard. I sent you an email with a PDF Glad to have you here and yes, I'm sure you will soon learn (as others have) that this place has a future in the hobby and in the WWW in general. Fills a nice little niche in the salty world. The podcast, married to a community is just an amazing tool! Spread your blanket and stay a while...water is warm (in and around 82F) and the natives are friendly.

Dave

Yea it was great, The reef guys (and gals) loved it. The Beta ladies couldn't figure it out. It was also a great way to get a bit extra out of employees, get the to talk about/ adsorb something useful. Of course we did our fair share of buffet too.

If you saw Marc's store, you'd see how the Buffett theme worked. His displays were covered with "tiki hut" looking enclosures. Also, in the spirit of Boston Reefers, the visits to the shop could very well include a few beers

You ALL need to see his new barn. Marc's been plugging away at the construction of his new project. His office and rock facility is INCREDIBLE. When I picked up my Marco Rock, I spent more time, in awe, checking out his carpentry. This barn WILL widthstand any hurricane that hits Cape Cod. It's also got one side that is glassed in like a greenhouse. The entire set up is amazing. Maybe we can entice him to show us around

His basement is another story looks like a plumber was on crack and decided to rig the entire basement as a pipe-sculpture. He must have almost a thousand gallons of salt water coursing through the walls of his house... Crazy bugger!

In any case, I'm glad Marc is at TR. He's got a wealth of experience in both the hobbyist side, and the industry side. Not to mention that he is just "good people", the kind we want at TR.
