I can go higher with the acrylic... would it matter if the pump is in that small of an area?
Keep in mind the smaller the area the more suction effect on the water in the cubicle. I personally would increase the size of the cubicle. Putting egge crate over the top would be a good idea.

Yea, im planning on doing a 6 inch sand bed in the sump and a 5 inch in the tank. The sand alone is going to cost my $120+ but i want to do it right. I picked out two bags of live sand at the LFS to set asside. both bags are going to go into the DT and then plain sand will go into the sump. I was also thinking about doing a sand and LR rumble reacter with white PVC but im not sure yet. hopefully the tank will be cycling before next week
Those are a variant of Astrea Snail. The LFS here marks them as zebra striped astrea. The neat thing about them is that they can often "roll over" when they fall, as opposed to their weaker, lighter cousins, the astreas that are common in the trade.
Also, the foam in your overflow... covering the strainer...may cause you problems if it becomes clogged. It may also create higher nitrates in your water being a very aerobic spot.
Finally, have you ever seen the ol' drinking straw trick? Drill the end of the strainer and either use a straw, or rigid airline and put it through until it is below the level of the water in the draining tube. This will help to significantly reduce the gurgle noises and surging of water going down the overflow pipe. Here...like this:
Sweet thanks for the tips. when i ran my tests i didnt have any gurgling for the time i had it up and running in the garage. i had it running for about 30 minutes or so. but i will keep the straw trick in mind..
OK it took me about an hour but i got my old tank moved, now i can start really working on the 29 gallon. Here are a few pictures. Ive been kinda busy today but its been fun
First thing i did today was paint the back of the tank black. Here is a picture of the back.
This picture is here what it looks like under the tank. On the right is the sump and on the left is the auto top off. i decided to go with a 15 gallon sump and a 5.5 gallon auto top off
This picture is the loc-line return from the sump. The return line is above the water level. When i was outside doing tests with return syphon. When i killed the power i had less than 1/2 inch return flow to the sump. so im very happy about that
Then this picture is simply the overflow pipe down at the sump. And of course the valve
Ill update more pictures as i get them. To be honest im not one to remember to stop and take pictures lol.
No actually im hoping to get a positive I.D. It was sold as a astrea snail. But im not so sure with how the shell looks. i need to get a picture of the shell..

Wesley,
Yes, I'll need a picture of the top of the shell, but it looks very much like a snail from the Turbo genus. Beautiful operculum. Snail IDs are very difficult to determine, even to Genus and are frequently mislabelled by stores.
i will try and get a picture of it tomorrow. Also if i can find one i have these little black snails i received as hitch hikers. I have no idea what they are and i cant find any picture of them. they are always hidden so i dont remember i have them lol. but ill try and post pictures of them also. Thanks for the help brian..
It was nice chatting with you too, i look forward to helping Project Dibs..
