MY QT tank & fish acclimation

Well after some discussion in the other threads I realized I need a QT tank. Is there any process to this? Or do I just throw the fish in there with water from the LFS and add some some freshly made salt water since I won't be getting that much water from the LFS? I am afraid I won't be able to get a lot of water from the LFS. Should I go with a QT tank smaller than 10 gallons? I was going to use a 10 gallon tank I have that was an old fresh water tank. Then add water from the main tank to the QT tank on a daily basis? How much should I add and how often? What kind of filter do you think would be good for a QT tank? I also learned from one of our fellow talking reefers that I am not supposed to put any LR or LS in this tank, just water. How long should I do this for before adding the fish to my main tank. So I guess I am talking two different things here, fish acclimation and setting up a QT tank
Thanks for the input.

yes it is two different things..
you will setup a QT, thats a basic empty tank, with water heater and a filter, like a sponge filter. In a normal QT i would just pull water from my Display tank, along with some freshly made SW. you would hold the fish in there for a minimum of 6 weeks (6 weeks is the recommended)
at this time you would acclimate to the display tanks.
