This tank was a downsize from a 40 gal. FOWLR that I just didnt have the space to keep or the funds to turn into a reef tank. So the LR, LS and water were moved over from a 18 - 24 month old tank. Attachment 607
I even have had to frag some Zoanthids which could be up for trade in a few weeks. frags_1.JPG
The problem areas seem to be two colonies of GSP one which had a infection of some kind, closed for two weeks then was covered in cyno within hours and over half of the colony died off the other one just seems to be maintaining and not growing.
My Xenia also seems to be just maintaining but looks good
My trumpet coral which was doing great, all five of the heads were spliting and just after the mouth split on two of the heads they bleached. I think this was due to old lighting which I have replaced.
What kind of lighting are you using? I so want a clam but don't think I would be able to keep one with 2x32 watt PC's. I am still hoping to find a pendant or 20" 70-150 watt MH on ebay for cheap.
nice transfer! sometime we got to do what we've got to do!
at least this way u have a chunk of reefwork thats maintainable!
and just think, once its completey stable> id suggest trading some stock, & introducing some exotic species to really set the nano off beautifully!
just a question, i see only a small intake overflow with a thin line funnel output, besides the perminant circular flow, has this been enough flow as a whole for the tank & the clam in particular!
I would even venture (to build on what verriann had said) to see if you could drill through the divider (why couldnt you, tis plastic) and see if you could find the space to throw in an extra Pump. And either have the outlet underneth the pre-existing one, or underneth the surface skimmer, both mods i have seen done and can be very successful
Btw have you upgraded the stock pump?? they usually prove to be very week and besides lighting, are the first things Nano Cubers tend to replace :/ I trashed the stock one in my nano for an MJ-900 the day i got the thing, and eventually kept the stock pump to mod in as the "second pump" i mentioned above. Very successful when put on a wave maker, or basic timer.

I am runing the stock pump and a mj-900 in the third chamber mj has a diy over the false wall return line (not in pic) for added counter clockwise flow ( around 400 GPH ), the stock surface skimmer seems to be working fine. I will be moving soon and I am working on a SCWD that will come out under the surface skimmer. as well as a 10gal sump/fuge and a 2 - 5 gal dark fuge. And a custom hood to add a 70w MH Im trying to get all the parts in order so when I move while the tank is down I can do all my plumbing and drilling.
The clam So far has been verry happy and growing. it was the NOOB buy that I was told "will do great in a nano cube" F*&^%@$ LFS! but it's happy and the wife & kids love it

I am runing the stock 2x32 PC but I am building a custom hood that will have the 2x32 and a 70w MH
Ok here is the new FTS ( showing the added flow) It is 3/4" pex tubing heated and bent to go over the false wall and flowing out from behind my LR fts_1.JPG fts_2_1.JPG
I would like to paint it black but not sure if I should
DIY nano cubes have always intrigued me. I almost went crazy with mine but decided to buy a 120 instead :/ if i dont sell the NC soon ill boot it up and see if i cant use an old 250watt MH fixture i have lying around (or ill trade for smaller lights<this is the more likely option)
I have a ten gal. AGA tank that I would like to turn into a fuge. After the dividers fuge area will be 13" long x 10" wide x 10" high. My questions are
1 Will a DSB of this size be of any benefit with a total water volume of 20 - 24 Gal.?
2 Will 170 GPH +/- be enough flow ( about 5 times turnover )
