I actually took some better shots, the pic of the cap does not do it justice, AND, top down pics, never done these before, but i think they turned out well.
Monti Cap (still a tad darker, but you get the idea ) And lol, i believe it came from a very good home
Well, i have had a rough couple of weeks in the tank. I got some really cool frags. One deepwater acro, a mille, and a blue echinata (i think).
This is all the resultant of a frag swap. In short, walked in with 13 frags, walked out with 5, $250, and 2 fish. I'd say a made out well lol
However, one of those fish was a foxface. I believe i got a rogue, second night it was in, stylo was nuked. Heartbreaker since that was one of my favorite colonies. It then turned on my clams, so once i got them under the protection of eggcrate shields, my armor of god palys stopped opening.
The same night my stylo died, i found my blue throat on the floor in my fish room I went to scoop him up, and miraculously, its gill moved, so boom, back in the tank. It took it 2 days to remember how to swim and is now happily bootin around the tank. Its side fins are all chewed up and there is some scarring on its side, but it's alive and eating, so im happy. So at least i could save something
GRRRR RAWR is all i can say.
So if i can catch the fish, ever, hes goin back to my fishie store. Heartbreaker since it was a gorgeous fish.
All in all, grr. I might just end up trying another foxface in the future, once my tank and frags and such recover. We'll see though.
hey bud, long time between drinks. how you been, previous to Bully ripping your hard work? bad state of affairs, you going to trap him melev & QS style?
Hello all, true to form, i know its been a while, but ive been in recovery mode for a while
Update
I caught the fox Double net style and gave him to my uncle.
But now the bad news,
due to a rogue temp spike (i would guess) i lost a $%@^ load of stuff
I say temp spike cuz i got home from vaca after like 4 days and the temp was 95 degrees
So, Deathtoll
Blue throat ( :'( i thought after jumping three times, yess, three times, i thought he was invincible)
Naso #2
One Lyretail Anthias
Birdsnest (still have 3 frags that survived)
Stylopora (DEVASTATED when i saw this one Still have a recovering frag left over)
Blue/Teal acro
Green Acro. Survived being in a Live rock tank and now this takes it out
Both Torches
Green Montipora
Neon Green acro (that one would have been amazing )
BLue/Brown Acro
Ricordias are half gone, they have bleached and are starting to shrink
Bubble Coral
Small Crocea Clam (by some freaking miracle the maxima and large crocea survived )
All My Hermits but 5 big ones
ALL SNAILS
Thats all i can think of for now
what i have left
all my zoas
every %*#%* Colt Coral grr)
Red Monti Cap (thank goodness)
Green Monti Digitata
Pink Mille
Fox coral (i find this to be a kind of boring coral myself)
Fungia Corals
Crazy Frog frogspawn (it has kind of gone radioactive, its kind of see through but the colours are alot stronger :s )
Pair of clowns
Hippo Tang
One Anthias
Flame Hawkfish
Black Fin Shrimp Goby
20 Tiger Trochus (new after the Spike)
5 Big Hermits
Both Cleaner Shrimp
BOth Peppermints
And i believe the temp spike was due to a faulty heater that stayed on :s
I now have them on a control with an audible alarm just in case
WHAT i have done so far
To save my tank from the resulting algae blooms from the lack of snails and hermits i got 20 tiger trochus snails (these things are like lawn mowers on steroids, love them) and some hermits
Thats that part
I removed all of the decomposing coral material left in the tank and started to run my skimmer very wet
over the course of a week i have been changing out about 50% water volume (not in one instance, over the course of the week) for the past 3-4 weeks
I have been regularly checking water levels ensuring they are getting back to normal, i have been feeding DT's, and growing chaeto, as always
What i plan to do
Becuse the tank is very bare at this point i plan on doing an overhaul of the rockwork and some of the system. I have a couple of spare skimmers and 75 gallon tanks that will help me to accomplish this. The rockworking is due to a difficulty in cleaning the circulation pumps intake and i just dont care for the piled up design that i did anymore
I plan on adding a larger, more dependable calcium reactor (the tunze one frequently dies on me), and i am also planning to add a 75 gallon fuge, and a frag tank (possibly the sump tank from the 180 system i have sitting in storage for my dads office)
I am also going to start ilooking into things like phos reactors, along with ozone and carbon reactors, once the tank is up and running again.
Overall status
Nothing has died in the past two weeks (besides a ^^$^&*@ $2.50 trochus when my hermits get hungry)
and all the corals that are still with me have shown no sign of decrease in health.
The two Clams are still very healthy and are showing full matle display, and the zoas continue to grow and colonize beautifully.
The colt corals are still popping up everywhere and i assure you once i move stuff around, they will not be going back into the tank.
I think thats it, see u in a couple months
(hehe, jk guys )
Sorry for your misfortune. That really sucks. On the bright side, it gives you a chance to improve things which, it sounds like you've wanted to do for some time.
Best of luck to you.
