Smile My new 72 gallon bow front tank

Well some of you may remember the terrible thread on RC about my 20 gallon FOWLR hair algae infested tank.

Well i just got a brand new 72 gallon bowfront. It was pre drilled with an overflow.

Inside the overflow (not best pic)

Heres what came with it to hook up to the overflow. I dont really like this system so i think that I am going to plug the 3/4" hole and not use any of the white tubes. and i will just run a return line up to the other end of the tank. This pic if the back of the tank showing the overflow. Sorry its sideways.

I need a skimmer. i want a good skimmer but i dont want to spend over 200 but preferably not to far iver 150. I was thinking ASM, aquaC, or coralife super skimmer. What do you guys recomend.

For the sump i have a 20 gallon rubbermaid. I want to do a refugium with all the equiptment in it. I mean i want a sump with a light over it where i can grow my chaeto and have the skimmer, heater, etc.

I will also have a uv sterilizer (already have it).

I do not plan on doing corals as i do not have the money for the corals of for the lights that they need.

I plan on getting more sand so there is 1- 2 1/2 of sand. I plan on getting some live rock but i want most of it to be base rock. and i will also move the (about) 50 lbs of rock from my current tank. I will only use RO/DI water since i have my own unit now. I am going to use instant ocean salt.

The fish I plan to have are the 5 that I already have which are
2: chromis, 2: ocelaric clowns, and 1: 6-line wrasse. I also plan on getting: 1:yellow tang, 1 or 2: tomato clown(s), 1 or 2: firefish,
1 or 2: neon goby(s), 1:sergeant major, MABY a royal gramma, and MABY a blue damsel.

I want to do this right. So i need your input.

well since most of the fish are small, i dont see a huge issue there...
i do think you might have issues trying to mix all those clowns..
personally i would recommend one species or another.. you can try, but it will likely end in death.

tank looks very nice.. good job, but i have to ask, why get a reef ready tank, if you aren't going to use the built in plumbing?

for skimmers, good call, go with the ASM or AquaC, stay away from the coralife one... doesn't have a good reputation

I plan on using both of the holes but they will both be drains. I am getting a mag 950 for a return pump and I Will just run the return line up on the other end of the tank. I got It In the clasifids of the paper, it was $120. I still dont have the stand because my mom did not want to buy it because it was $170 but I convinced her to get it for me today or tomarow. I cant even do anything with it because we are going to norway on the 26th and so I cant set it up before we get back (july 17)

they get pretty nasty when they get large. i liked them myself when i first had little ones. i had one that took down a clown trigger, and another that took down a powder blue tang.

ok wel i might not get the sergeant major. Will the yellow tangs eat flake food. on the can of food I have there is a picture of a yellow tang but I dont know if its relivent. I will probrobly just get some nori. Also what about the royal gramma, I really love em' but I dont want much aggression in this tank.

yellow tangs and royal grammas will take to flake food easily, but use variety.

looks like you have a good list going there..
in regards to the tang, they will usually eat flake food, i prefer formula one or formula two (two has more veggie) as they both are decently well balanced foods.
the nori is also recommended to maintain there health, but if you choose the formula 1 or 2 you might not have to feed the nori as often.

i use formula one flake, veggie pellets (small) soaked in garlic, and only feed nori twice a week (2 tangs)

So the royal gramma would be ok?

Remember I have a 6-line so i'm not sure is they get along.

in a 72 with plenty of rocks, it should be fine.

road block. I have decided on an ASM skimmer. that it 22 inches tall. well the entire area under the tank is about 22 inches tll. I am thinking about using a 20 gallon tank (17 inches tall). A n ASM mini would fit perfectly in this tank at about 16 inches. How many gallons is the mini good for. I was thinking of getting 2 of those.
