I'm curious as to what was the cost of your 72 gallon Bowfront with Wood Stand. I'm currently looking into purchasing on and can get the tank and stand for about $515. Do you consider this a reasonable price? Or should I just go with the 155 gallon Bowfront tank and stand for $995?
you will probibly be happier with the 155 gallon in the long run but there are some things to consider. Namely cost of lighting, Live rock, equipment and general upkeep. While larger tanks are easier to maintain, they also cost ALOT more to maintain them.
The cost of salt alone will be twice that of the 72.
One of the major reasons I went with the size I did was because of my limited budget. If you don't have this problem, I say go for it. Ultimately the extra 500 bucks won't amount to much considering the cost of everything else that goes into this hobby.
RocketSeason the upkeep cost are not an issue I already have a 180 I was just curious as to the price that you paid for yours just trying to contrast. :-)
I got it from an ad in the paper where somewon just wanted this big empty tank out of the garage. The guy had a tank exactly like it but it leaked and he got this new tank under the warrenty but never set it up, so the tank was new and the stand was used but it was in such great conditoin you couldnt even tell.
I would love to point out that i used alot of stuff on my nano that you're using, i used the same test kits, hydrometer, and the heater.
Info like that is so useful aint it??
But as per the tanks??
GO BIG, even if you cant do it all in one go, like me (:s). It wil be peiced together eventually and you'll be so much happier with a big tank that took a little longer, than with a small tank that took less time, but is nowhere near as nice as a big tank( well, big, any small tank can be nice but you get what i mean ). Because you will find VERY QUICKLY that you cannot do as many things with a smaller tank as you could with a big one.
Of course, you have been no doubt told all this by someone else, or picked it up. But just in case for all the sleepers (thats what i call the no-posters) out there
The newest addition is an auto top off. I got it all hooked up (tubing/pumps) and the float switch is still in the mail, but it should be here soon. that will make it muvh easyer cus i evaporate about one to one and a half gallons each day so it will definetly be nice.
i have been thinking about a auto top-off after i finish my sump. how are you setting yours up? are you using two floats or just one? i was thinking about using a maxi-jet 400 what pump did you go with?
I am setting it up the same way as melev is. If you arnt farmiliar with that it is to cut one of the wires in a small extension cord, then attach each end of the wier to one of the wires comming off of the float switch. I got the ifloat floatswitch from www.aquahub.com , it was $6.50. I would not use a pump that pulls more than 4 watts, because of spiking voltage. Heres a short article about what that is: http://www.aquahub.com/store/curingspik.html
I am using the aqualifter pump because it only pulls 3 watts of power and is perfevt for auto top off's
Well as soon as nitrite went to zero i added fish. I added 2 chromis from my 20 gallon. In a day or 2 i will add my 2 clowns then probrobly 4-6 days after tht i wil add my 6-line and the rest of the rock and sand that is in the 20. Then i am gonna set up the 20 as a FW angel tank so the 2 i have in a 5 right now have more space.1
