Ok update
This morning when I woke up after putting in all the water I found the sump was still leaking. I would advise that you think twice before buying anything Oceanic. There quality is VERY poor now. I am debating taking it back or trying to fix it. Leaning towards taking it back
i would take it back and get a replacement. oceanic has a good reputation where i am, although i am right now 100% plexi. it would seem like you were unfortunate to get the rare lemon. give them another chance. silicone work is done by hand and sometimes is harder than it looks.....as you yourself just proved.

Well I tryed to reseal it again, I let it sit 36 hours for the silicon to cure and now am going to leak test it for 24 hours. I put a pump in the sump and directed it right to the area it was leaking so if its gonna leak I would think it would do it now.
I really dont want to deal with the people that sold me the sump. They are not very customer service oriented. In fact when I brought my first tank back they acted like I was annoying them. They made me so mad I considered returning everything I had bought and getting out of the hobby completly. But then I started listening to Robs podcast and it calmed me down and I got excited about the tank again.
good luck. oceanic will take care of you if the lfs don't. i have already spoken about it with a friend there. too bad your lfs sucks, why are they so bad?
They just don't care, I think the problem is they think they are the only LFS in town. They are probably the biggest but both the owners act like I have no other choice then to shop there. The one I deal with is so Apathetic it drives me crazy.

that's a shame. out here, there are so many stores.........we have choices. but find a good one and support em......it will pay off.

perfect.. mission accomplished..
yes, things can get very frustrating when you dont have good people to work with.
i would take walrus's recommendation and try and contact oceanic, at least that way you can get a replacement that you wont have to worry about in the future.
please let us know how it turns out.

OK leak testing the sump in the aquarium now, I let it sit 24 hours outside full of water with a power head pointed directly at the area that was leaking before. I think I might be in the clear as far as the leaks go (crossing fingers)
I have everything running now, the skimmer the fuge pump, and the main pump. Its just RO/DI water now but if it holds without leaks, the lights work properly, and The temperature stays stable with the chiller and the heater I will add the salt Saturday. I was curious since the protein skimmer is running and there is sand in the tank (not live) should I see the protein skimmer producing anything? Also I have my Tunze wavebox but I don't have the magnet yet to mount it. If I add the live rock on Sat or Sunday will I need it running or is the 10 cycle from the return pump going to be enough until next week?
geeze, no one can say u dont have enough equiptment...lol.
sorry to hear about some hook ups along the way, i'll lend u my bushbashing stick that sorts any problem out! batteries not included
I haven't got any live rock yet so there is no point in testing the rest of the stuff. My friend is bringing over my live rock on Sunday so then I will start testing the other stuff like Ammonia etc
I added the salt a few hours ago. It was a little different then I thought. I am using Tropic Marin Reef Pro and I expected to see on the bucket something like add 1 cup per gallon or something, Instead it said get the specific gravity between 1.022 and 1.025, I thought well duh! So I looked around on the Internet and found a formula for .5 cups per gallon, I went off this general number and got almost exactly 1.025.
Then I calibrated my PH meter and checked that just for fun. The temperature is a digital display on the Chiller so its in line on the return line. I also checked it with a temp meter and got the same reading.
I don't think you will skim *normal* until you have salt added to the water. I think it's a chemistry thing, but I could be way off- does anyone know?
The return pump will be fine until you get the Tunze all hooked up
although the unit will work, without the S/G value high its going to try to over run itself without even coming close to functioning correctly. your right Q ,waste of time !
but this doesn't matter now, cause he has the level where he want it!
