I think he's frying due to crazy water temps this summer...he's bleaching only on the backside and his polyps are gone in certain areas...would heat do this? it appears my birds nest toward the middle of the tank are doing ok...just not the one at the top.
I'm going to move him unless anyone here says otherwise.
could be a lot of things, including water temps. we would really need all of the usual parameters to accurately help. IME, each birdsnest has a different light intensity that they like. some like high light ... some like lower light. i would move it close to the other one and see how it does though.

I've moved it and it still appears stressed, the temp in the water is now stable...i'm thinking about just investing in a chiller so it doesn't fluctuate as much. My water parameters are perfect, I paid a local fish store to give my water an entire work up (because I don't have Ca and Mg test kits)...everything was perfect...the guy said it looked like new water.
I don't know whats wrong, it was thriving for about 2 months, then all of a sudden just started bleaching and polyp extension has been poor.

do you have enough water circulation in your tank, if its possibly in a low flow area it might not be getting the nutrients it needs, i,m relativly new to this hobby and just dibbling and dabbling in corals myself, so this is only a suggestion,
any possibility of pics ?? they would really help. i suggest close up of affected area and a full tank shot. even a complete parameter run down, and list of equipment ??

Unfortunately, I wouldn't trust all the tests done from a lfs. In this case they might be correct, but if you are keeping stonies, you should be able to test calcium, Alk, Mag, Nitrates, ph, & phosphates. Most corals can handle a few degree swing in temp every day. Do you have a fan over your sump? What are you using for flow? What are you using to export nutrients?
