cyno!

i have had cyno on my substrate for ever, i suck it out and it comes back two days later.
i have a 55 gallon reef tank w/ 50 lbs lr, hob cpr bakpak producing a cup of wet skim a day and a aqua clear 110 for running carbon and throw-away partical filters.

3 clowns, 1 royal gramma, 1 chromis and a lawn mower blenny.
also xenia, frogspawn, gsp, duncan, leather and some shrooms

this tank has been running for a year plus, with all levels testing 0 except nitrate-15.
i do 5 gallon per week water changes, and i feed lite.

my sand bed is 2" i siphon it rarely and i feel its got alot of detritus built up in it.
is not doing sand bed husbandry the cause of the cyno?
my flow is 2 korilla 4's
the cyno only appears in the middle front of the tank on the substrate.

great show, hope you can help.

it sounds like a flow issue to me. with it only building on the front center ... it sounds like this is a low flow area. try increasing the flow by turning the Koralias a little bit so that you can see a very minor sand disturbance in that area, and see if that helps.

welcome to TR !!

Bobby, would Phosphates be an issue? Maybe running a reactor like a Phosban and your choice of Rowaphos, Phosban or Phoslock...

they could be, but with it being in only one section of the tank, i think it is more of a flow issue in this case.

cyano is actually a bacteria and not an algae, but if i remember correctly ... PO4 is a small contributing factor. with his readings at 0 and such a small localized amount, i kind of doubt it is the cause here.
