Unhappy Pump burned up

I was mixing up a batch of water in a loosely covered Runnermaid container and the pump I was using seems like it just burned up. The lights flicked off, (just in that area, not the whole house), the pump stopped working and it smells like hot electrical. :-(

Do you think that the water I was mixing is OK?

That's a tough one to answer. If the pump merely shorted out, or the GFI tripped or whatever, then you should be okay.

I don't know what you are using for a pump, but if it developed a crack, it could have leaked an oil or lubricant.

If it was just a powerhead that shorted, I'd not worry.

Rio 1700. I tossed the water, it smelled bad and I wouldn't have wanted to swim in it!

the larger RIO pumps are notorious for doing that...
the newer RIO + (Plus) models were suppose to have resolved those issues

Great! I'm running my return & skimmer with 2500's. Maybe I need to look for a 3 for 1 deal on powrheads!
