Most of my plumbing was put together with PVC glue. I don't really recommend it, now, though. Theres nothing wrong with it, but it leaks a lot (and I put a LOT of glue on when I sealed the pipes together), and now its impossible to take the pipes apart. If you can, I'd go with threaded pipes... I'm going to have to redo my entire plumbing setup eventually, but I keep putting it off... its not going to be fun :/

the PVC primer and glue REALLY stink on flex tubing !! my return line (just above my pump) popped off the other day, when i tried to move the flex tubing about an inch to the left. luckily i was the reason it popped off ... it could have been a disaster !!

That's because the PVC 'glue' isn't actually glue. It's a catalyst that actually melts the PVC. When you place the two pieces of PVC together it melts them together as if they were 1 solid piece. I agree with the threaded pipes (or flexible tubing). If you cement everything together, atleast have a few true unions that you can separate and disassemble because eventually you will need to service the pump.

PVC glue contains chlorinated solvents and in my days in the environmental business we would never use PVC glue only compression fittings because even a few drops of the glue could increase the PCE concentration in a monitoring well to above remediation goals.

For what it's worth, I only glue my pressurized plumbing. I never glue the overflow plumbing. No need to....unless you are going through walls and such that make it impossible to see/maintain the plumb.
