Ok, so I've got a bit of a problem here, but let me give a little background first. My wife's in charge of the fish department at one of those evil corporate pet stores (and I work on occasion trying to keep the tanks clean and maintained). She's done a lot of work to try to make our marine selection one of the healthiest and better looking ones in the area, and we've really turned what once looked like complete ass into a pretty decent selection of fish and inverts. We've had a lot of success, but for some reason, our flame angels don't do well at all. They'll come in looking healthy with a healthy appetite, and after a few days of swimming fine, and eating, they'll up and die for no apparent reason.
Our
pH hangs put around 8.2,
salinity is kept a little low at 1.017 to 1.018,
NH3, and
NO2 are both non-existent, and
NO3 is generally a little high but ranges normally from 30-50
ppm.
The flames are supposed to be one of the hardiest of the dwarf angels, but if anyone has any ideas, my fish and I would greatly appreciate it.
