ok my Ca messured 750 lastnight i tried to clean out the tubes as best as i could but the second time i got a reading of 700, i am getting vinigar tonight for cleaning of the tubes. but here is the thing i havnt treated anything with calcium in a few weeks way beyond my last test.. only thing im using right now is purple up. can calcium jump by itself? i am hopeing its just the test tubes, all my livestock is looking good as ever. any ideas? oh yea i havnt tested with a diferent tester yet and mine isnt expired.
thanks in advance...
ok i came home and cleaned my tubes, i did find on the bottle where it says calcium on my purple up. but anyways my calcium is at 550 right now should i let it go, or water change. and i should stop dosing purple up till i get the figured out shouldnt i? ( only reason i ask is because its really working well lol )
wow do you dose calcium regularly? your tank looks like theres a buch of softies which dont use alot of calcium. you should aim for levels around 390 - 420. i think if you do a coulple of water changes, youll find the levels will go back down.
another senario is that your test kit doesnt measure correctly. id still do the water changes though while you look for another test kit.
yea i usually keep my calcium at 450. i havnt dosed with anything for a few weeks, except for purple up it contains calcium but when i dose i dose with a half of lid. i have a 40gal and it calls for one lid per 50 gallons. so i'm not to sure why that little amount of under dosed purple up made that big of diference. im going to do a 50% water change this weekend and clean my sand bed. so hopefully after that everything will be ok. also i am getting a friend of mine tester tomorrow to retest with a diferent one.
well jedi rob nailed it one more time. my alk is about 0.7 - 0.8. now i havnt sat down and studied this yet. but from what ive heard alk and kh are the same. i have kh buffer would that work as a buffer?
you friend, backing soda is.. (Jedi Yoda)
get out a new box of arm n hammer, and mix it with some RO water..
then add to tank..
dont try to increase fast, but over a few days...
keep an eye on your Ca though, as soon as you get your Alk back on track, you will start to see more of a fluctuation in your Ca, probably a sudden drop off
