I opted to hang my Solaris off of a Zeroedge Lamp Tree. This allows me to get the fixture 8" above the water surface, and about 22" from the
DSB bottom, which is exactly where I wanted it. It also allows me to partially conceal the wires from the fixture and my powerhead, which are zip tied to the vertical arm.
There are some negatives to this approach I have discovered:
1) The Lamp Tree that Zeroedge manufactures is overpriced. Based on the simple nature of the stand and the materials/finish quality, I think it should be $120 and not $185.
2) The radius of the curved portion of the arm is too large.The curved part of the arm should flatten out at the top sooner, since it prevents most fixtures from mounting level to the cross bar. My fixture is tilted, as indicated in the photo.
3) I have the Lamp Tree mounted to the back of my stand, so the broad curvature also prevents my fixture from being any closer to the water since the curved part of the arm is obstructed by my tank. The second picture shows the piece of rubber I installed between the two since they are so close.
The solution to this would be to suspend it from the cross bar. I have been resisting this since it makes the appearance more complicated. Curiously, I have seen pictures on the Zeroedge site of Solaris fixtures tilted (like mine) and level when attached directly to the cross bar. Perhaps my Lamp Tree is defective?
