Comparing Solaris 250w with 400w

Has anyone done a side by side comparison of the 250w equivalent with the 400w equivalent?

I have a 6' long 125G arylic that I am considering using 1 250w and 1 400w Solaris as opposed to a single 6' Solaris.

My thinking is that the very high PAR corals (Acros) could be on one side and the less demanding corals would be on the other side.

My wife's concern is that, to the naked eye, this would give an uneven appearance.

What do you think?

Don

Don, I haven't done this and I am a bad interior designer. But, I think given the outward design of the fixture that it would look fine. My only concern would be if the fans would work properly. How are you mounting them? If hanging, you could leave an inch or so in between and that would probably be enough to allow air to circulate. I cannot feel any heat come off mine from the fans.

Don,

I don't know of anyone that has run a 250W and a 400W as you are suggesting. I do have a customer that bought 2 36" 250W to put on his 6' tank. His thinking was, if something went wrong with the light and had to be shipped back to the factory for repair, with a single 6' light he'd be without light but, with the 2 36" he'd have one to use while the other was missing. It worked out for him and he recently ordered 2 36" 400W.

Your wife's concern about appearing uneven could be valid. I don't know.

Hope this helped.

Dick

Seahorsedreams will become famous soon enough
I tried that with MH... it didn't work out. It always look like maybe a bulb was blown on the dimmer side... wasn't pleasing like I hoped it would be.

That would be my take on it, too, Renee.
