Outer Orbit extreme problem

Hi all,

Looking for some ideas here... I came home today and my actinics weren't working on my outer orbit extreme lighting system. I checked all the external connectors, the timer, etc... I haven't taken it apart or anything that extreme yet. I don't think both bulbs went out at the same time, so aside from just taking the lights back to the store, what do you guys suggest?

Anyone had any this sort of problem? Any suggestions?

if its not that old, thats what i would do
take it back, let them test it with new bulbs, just to make sure.. then if it needs to be replaced your already there.

as far as diagnosing it yourself, it sounds like you have done all the things i would have

I've had it for less than a year, so hopefully all is under warranty and no worries... I talked to my LFS today and they were helpful about wanting to get it fixed... so I'm not too worried about it. The halides are still working, so atleast there is some light for now. I can always augment with my small coralife sump light if needed...

i am not sure !! but if they are all piggy back wired, if the first on goes out then the others might not be getting enough juice to fire.

Well, I pulled the bulbs, placed them in an old fixture and they fired right up, so it makes me think it is a ballast problem.

Luckily I've found someone in the local club that has a ballast for a very reasonable price, and the LFS has said they would give me store credit for any expenses incurred. The great thing is I didn't even ask them to do that, they volunteered as soon as I mentioned just fixing it myself vs. going the warranty route.

I just couldn't bare being without my metal halides on my tank for the better part of a month.
