I do not make my own food. The items needed for making your own food depends on what is in your tank. Different fish and different corals require different foods.

depending on who I am feeding, I use a grater for things like salmon and krill, they grate up really well when they are frozen, I often add cyclops, baby brine or mysis, vitamins, rotifers, often a drop of garlic etc. Ice cube trays for the small cubes make a great place to put serving-sized portions into.

Look over at the podcast archive over here. I'm pretty sure Rob and crew had a roundtable discussing this point. Seems I also hear about a lot of local clubs getting together for DIY food making, sharing in the cost and cleanup, besides getting some good social time in.

I only feed one thing during the day, which is Rod's Food. Expensive, but Rod's food is 100% food and not comprised of gel binders or water, doesn't require me to run all over town to get ingredients, and doesn't need straining. Works for me and simplifies one aspect of reef keeping.

Rod's Food ingredients:

Shrimp, Scallop, Oyster, Clam, Squid, Octopus, Brine, Krill, Mysis, Grouper (or perch), Red Nori, green Nori, Broccoli, carrot, Frozen red plankton, Golden pearl (7 sizes), DTs Oyster eggs, Selco, Fresh hatched brine, Freshly harvested rotifers

---

I have tried Coral Heaven by IPSF as a lights-out coral food. I may try a Reef-Nutrition product soon instead.

I make fish mush with whitefish, shrimp, scallops, nori, mysis, vitamins, garlic, Cyclopeeze and maybe clams and oysters. I have done this on my own and as a workshop/club activity. Some people buy a frozen seafood mix at the grocery store that has a variety of shellfish in it and use this as the basis of their fish mush.

You should have your own fish mush blender. I will have to try Laura's suggestion of grating frozen foods but I still suggest that you have a grater dedicated to fish food!

Yeah defently a different processor. My wife wasn't hapy with me when I used the reular strainer for rinsing off the frozen food, I could only imagine what she would do if I used her processor.
