Mag Drive pumps..

let me ask you guys something i bought a mag drive 1200 for my return pump, i was cleaning it out a while back and i noticed that the bolts that hold the outlet on the pump are rusting. This is a submersible pump so why would the manufacture use bolts that rust? I also looked at my mag drive 3 that is used for my Aqua Remora skimmer, same thing what gives?

Every mag pump I've ever had has done this. I don't know if they're not stainless, or if they are, what else they could use short of titanium, but I've never seen any effect from having them in the tank.

The bolts are stainless, but like so many other things in life there are several "grades" of stainless. The little bit of corrosion you are experiencing is normal and nothing to worry about. I've got Mags in use for years with no ill effects from the corrosion.

Have you seen the new Mags? These are big work horses, submersible or not, come with several sizes of in and outlet adaptors. They look pretty slick.
