What else should I put in my sump?

I am using a 55 long as a sump on my 125. Currently it is half empty. I just know there is something good I should be using that space for. I have a ASM G3 protein skimmer and micro alge (I think thats what it is) in the other half. What should I do with the empty space?

Do you have baffles in it or is it just the tank?

Couple of things. Try to section off that MACROalgea from the return area of your sump to keep it from clogging things up. then add a light to that sectioned off area so that it will grow nicely and not die.

There are many things people add into sumps. Protien Skimmers, Calcium Reactors, heaters, etc.

Basically anything that can be removed from you dispay can be put into a sump. (leave your powerheads in the display of course.) Its important to do alot of reseach about what your adding before you do of course.

Check out this site for some great info on Sumps.

Spbeyond,

to Talking Reef Community and Podcast.

My suggestion would be a DSB to handle Nitrate conversion.

I second the DSB and macro. Try to baffle it so the skimmer is before this fuge (make this area the last in the sump before the return). That way the pods that will hopefully grow there don't get skimmed and get to go play food in your tank.

Jarhead,

to Talking Reef Community and Podcast.

I see you found TR from the link on my web site. That's great. I think you will like the attitude of the reefers here. Lots of good folks willing to help.
