Swapping A Stand & Patching "Current" Tank

Ok i came home the other day and some of the silicone on my tank was leaking. i patched it up very quickly and it is holding very nicely. my question is i want to fix the silicone and swap out the stand at the same time so i can do a bigger/better sump than what i was planning. here is what i thought i would do.

1. Cycle a 10 gallon for temp storage
2. Drain tank water into bucket to keep.
3. Patch and replace stand
4. Pour water back into tank
5. Proceed in building my sump/refugium idea.

can i do that? if i keep the water and not change anything in the tank would i still have a cycle? i was also thinking about taking water out of the current tank for the 10gal temp tank. i know i would have alittle cycle but i think it would help with the stress..
Does anyone have any thoughts on this or better yet, a better idea on how to do this?
thanks in advance

No, there wouldn't be a cycle. Your tank is new so damage to your sand would be minimal. I think you'll be allright. Just be sure you can fit everything in a ten gallon holding tank.

5 Gallon paint buckets work well too.

I think you'd be OK. I'd use the tank water in the holding tank to help avoid stressing your livestock.
