What Kind of Fish/Inverts/Corals do you have? Your Favorite?

What does everybody have in your little piece of the ocean? Whats your favorite thing in your tank?

Fish-
I have Blue Hippo Tang, Yellow Tang, PJ cardinal, Flame Cardinal. Royal Gramma, Firefish, Ocellaris Clown, Percula Clown, Mandarin Dragonet.

Inverts-
Sebae Anemone, Rose Anemone, LG Green Brittle Star, 2 Peppermint Shrimp, 1 Cleaner Shrimp, 10 Blue Leg hermits, 5 Scarlet Hermits, 3 emerald crabs, 2 other crabs that were supposed to be blue legs but have white legs so who knows what they are, so far have caused no problems, 2 Nassaris Snails, 8 Mexican Turbo Snails, 3 other snails I don't know the name of... cone shaped shells. 4 LG Feather Dusters.

Corals-
Xenia, Candy Cane, Oxipora Lacera, Green Star Polyp, Pink Star Polyp, Brown Zoo's, Yellow Polyps, Purple Mushroom, Green Striped Mushroom, Montipora Capricornus.

Wow, Thats alot of stuff when you write it all down! Its hard to say what my favorite is. I never tire of watching the tank.

I love the interaction between Nemo/Demo and the Anemones. But watching Bubbles (YT) and Dory (BHT) chase after Nori is great fun. One of the greatest things to see in the tank is the Emerald Crabs, they try and steal the nori from the tangs when it comes close to the rocks, Bubbles will go take it right back. Then Every night when I turn on the moonlight my Mandarin does a dance. I know he is catching pods as they come from the sand, i think anyway..lol but he seems to flit and jump around in the moonlight like he's dong some sort of ritual dance..

Goodness, I am as long winded in typing words as I am in speaking!
So what do you have and love in your tank?

lol.. yeah it seems to happen that way. i would suggest waiting a bit on the anemone, then once ou get a good heathly stable tank and a bit of experince go for the BTA. you really should wait o the Sun coral, those are a bit hard and because there not photosynthetic, they require alot of intevention to keep them alive...

I have a bunch of crabs, yellow polyps, green star polyps, brown xinia, and the two corals that rob gave me, which are doing great. I also have a Lawnmower blenny that doesn't seem to like food. He has been in the tank for two months or more now and just whatches the food float buy. I tried giving him vegi flakes and nori, and everyone else falls over themselves to get to the food, except this blenny, he just lets it float right by his face. any ideas? this is what depresses me every time. I hear of you guy's talk of your fish and this fish, but every time I touch them they wither away into nothing. If it wasn't for the corals doing well I would have givin up already. stupid fish. EAT some food damnit.

thanks for letting me rant.

Tim

lmb not eating

i am sorry to hear that your blenny is not eating. do you see him picking at the rocks at all? i would try taking a piece of nori and wrapping it around a rock securing it with a rubber band or something like that. maybe then he would think he was finding food himself?

Good Luck

he does seem to pick at the rocks, but I'm not sure it is enough. the trick with the nori sounds like a good idea. I will give it a try, but I fear the hermits and other crabs will have it gone for sure b4 LMB ever gets to it. But I will try it.

LMB skinny as a rail compared to when i got him.

maybe you could place one section of nori down low for the crabs then place another higher up for him? then at least he would have a fighting chance. do you have cleaner shrimp in your tank with him? I have had two lmb's one jumped out when i was not around and the other died of an injury to his gills. the cleaner shrimp was doing his thing and it seems he spent a really long time messing with the lmb gill. soon after the blenny died. never did figure that one out. but both my blennies before they died ate lots of meats and algae's. they even chased cyclopease.

I have one or two pistol shrimp in there. Maybe I should start adding meat in there also. Which brings me to another Question: Should I be feeding the shrimp with some feeding thingys? with some meat? or is the vegi flakes good enough?

I also have to admit that, because I am an owner at the other site, I am no means an experianced Aquarist, the site was dropped into mine and joels lap by the previous owner and thats what thats all about. I made joe and john a owner and made jane a moderator (she probly don't know yet) and if you want in I can arrange it (Rob too if your lurking). Let me know.

Also My tank looks like a Refugium right now, and I was thinking of just taking the Fluval 404 off it and just using my Rock sand and skimmer. But I always feel naked without a Mech filter. whatchya think?

Tim.

I feed frozen raw shrimp, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, red nori, green nori, and silversides, and cyclopease. plus i have bio blend too which my fish seem to love. i don't feed it all on the same day of course. but i was under the impression that most of the sw fish at some point eat meat (because fish are scavengers) as well as veggies. my tangs eat as much of the meats as they do the nori's. Both my LMB's loved what ever meat i chose that day.

i agree with Suna, i feed lots of things to my tank, both vegi and meaty. when i am spot feeding my corals and anemone, i do usually drop a piece or two for my cleaner shrimp, and sometimes my blue legged crabs.. i dont thenk the hermits really need it, but i kinda feel bad sometimes, when i am flooding the others with food..lol... so i give them some too

and yes im interested

and Tim, i know how you feel about the mechanical filter... but you should remove it... it was one of th hardest and best thigs i ever did... less algae was the best result from not using it... as a long time FW keeper it was very difficult, you just have to bite the bullet and pull it off... lol
