Wrasse Owners...

Hi all. Just wondering if it's a normal behavior for a Wrasse to go into a hole on a LR. I have this fairy wrasse I got last weekend & i would find him sometimes in a hole on my LR.
TIA,
John

yes, wrasses commonly seek out holes, caves, crevasses, and other hiding places.

ahh a Reefers nightmare1

Wrasse are known to stay in hiding sometimes 2 or 3 weeks sometimes. there one of those fish you love to get and can't wait to add him then do nothing but worry about him.two make it worse they like to burry themselves in little mucus cacoons at times. try putting some mysis in the tank see if that doesn't get him out.. but wrasses go under that love hate thing.

wow. So far my 6 line is just about as active as my clowns. pretty much always out and about, and there are plenty of places to hide if it wants to.

yes, once the acclimate they will come out often.
mine took about 1-2 months before it would regularly come out..

I think he's coming around to showing himself more often. I think he found a buddy. He's always right beside my sand sifting goby. so hopefully he swims around more often, so that I can really see his colors.

what i learned from keeping a bunch of wrasses in the same tank is its usually best to keep a pair if you going to keep more than 3 species in your tank. y u ask? this is only my opinion and observation but the males usually arrive nice and vibrant at the lfs but when brought home and introduced to a tank with other male wrasses, the less dominant 1z will be bullied and their colors will fade. when i introduced females in the tank flasher wrasses will flash their colors and display their long thread fins. i guess its a reason for them to display their colors when a female is present. just my opinion again. im interested in what others think.

75g main tank
55g sump/refugium
2 carpenters wrasses
2 hawaiian flames wrasse
1 rose fairy wrasse
1 blueface angle
2 ventralis anthias
1 flame angle

this depends on the wrasse but the females are usually smaller and are not as vibrant as the males.
