Has anyone kept a longnose hawkfish with cleaner shrimp and hemits?
I know that hawk fish and shrimp in general are not recommended, but what I want is has anyone done it? Cus I really want to, and have wanted to since I got into the hobby.

Yes, I have kept them together. The Long Nose Hawk fish has a relatively small mouth and a peaceful disposition. However, if you are one that doesn't keep your fish fed properly (skimpy on feeding) then your shrimp could be at risk. Food is Food and shrimp, ornamental or otherwise, could be consumed by a hungry Long Nose.

Thanks, I was kinda hopeing you would repsond,I highly trust your opinion. I feed my tank every morning and maybe 3 times a week alittle more later in the day. Do you think that would be enough, to keep him happy? I feed a good amount. Was yours an aggresive eater or laxed? I feed a good amount but my fish are pretty agressive eaters, rapidly consuming it all. I have a 125g with only 1 cleaner cleaner and 1 blood shrimp, but want to add a few more. Do you think I would be ok adding a longnose hawk? Do they go after hermits?

Thank you. I went to the best Marine Aquariology College in the world, "The School of Hard Knocks"
I should add, they have been known to leap to the floor on occasion.
Anytime you mix predator and prey you take a chance. If you can get the Long Nose to eat what you are feeding (not too difficult to task) and feed him good you will probably be OK. You never know until you try and this seems like it would be a good fit.

I have had my hawkfish in my tank for about three months now and have not seen any problems. i have a cleaner and several hermits in the 45 gallon right now
I have a 125 with a cleaner and a banded coral and about 50 red & blue legged hermits AND a long nosed hawkfish (Hawkeye). Never had any problems with him. His favorite food - Mysis shrimp. I feed twice a day but he only seems to eat in the morning, alot! I also supplement with good pellet food and he won't touch anything but the shrimp.
I've had my Longnose Hawkfish (Hawkboy) for about 4 months now. He hasn't touched any hermits, but my large pepermint shrimp that I had for a year, vanished about 2 months after I added the hawkfish. I never saw the hawkfish go near him, but my guess is he's the culprit. I figured the Peppermint was large enough that he'd be safe. I usually only feed once a day, but feed a good amount. The Hawkfish has grabbed some good size pieces (about 1/4" of krill and silversides meant for my Sabae Anemone. Looked funny seeing him swim all over with this large chunk of food in his mouth. He manages to work it into smaller pieces that he can eat.
