And to think ... I used to have one of these, back about 15 years ago, before they were illegal. I think I paid $150 for him, and thought that was expensive! He was a stunning fish ... hardy and ate everything, though he was a bit of a bully.
I am amazed that people will pay this much for a fish.

I read where several people were arrested catching them ... I think it was off the coast of Baja. If I remember correctly, they had 16 of them. It's sad when greed is more important than saving an endangered species.

I agree Danamck. Greed is a sick sin.
I noticed Drs. F&S made sure they informed us that these were, "Super Rare and legally imported into the US".
I also agree with Reefbaby, "leave the poor critter where he came from!"

Reaching my 70th BD, I realize that I cannot help but grow old. However, I refuse to grow up!!! My wife would tell you, "He may be 70 but, He's going on 17". Life is wonderful with a woman like that.
I was there a couple of weeks ago and was in one of the partner/owner (not quite sure), offices while conversations were going on about this hobby and some of the practices going on in the collection of fish and the responsibilities of the suppliers to the public and what role they were going to have to take.
What side were they going to be on. There are people out there with big pocket books who will pay anything to get rare species, items they want. To the point that people/divers were and are actually dying collecting these rare items. The divers are greedy and want the money, most risking the health of the fish bringing them up too fast, not to mention risking their own lives for the money. Then there is the customer, what can you say when a person is willing to risk another persons life, just so they can get what they want. That is a very sad thing.
I did however get the feeling they were drawing a line in the sand of what side they were going to be on, and it was going to be/ or is the ethical side. Time will tell. However, if they are selling these fish maybe that says something else? But they did state they were collected legally, does that make right? I guess whether a fish is$5 or $3500, if it can't be sustained in captivity it should be off limits in the aquarium trade and left in the ocean.

I guess if this were the practice, then the hobby would have been over before it ever begun.
That would be sad too. We have learned a lot over the years.
