I have never seen this fish in any fish store, but I have always admired it in various books. Now that I see how much one of these puppies costs, I understand why fish stores don't carry them. That, and it's not reef safe.
I'm suprised they don't throw in free shipping with this purchase!
From the Southern part of the Great Barrier Reef, Conspicillatus Angels are seldom collected. The fish at Liveaquaria is the smallest one I've ever seen, 3". Always expensive, they are usually 6" or larger and require a large well established aquarium, I'd say 180 minimum. In my long (40 year) career of prowling LFS and wholesale outlets I can remember seeing only a couple. In the '70s collecting on the GBR was not as regulated as it is today.

"Please note: if you do not complete your order by checking out, someone else may order this specimen."
I wanna be the friend of that other person who does order this specimen. WOW!!! 3700 dollars for a fish?! For that price one can get a ticket to Australia and go catch one themselves! It looks like a powder brown tang only $3650 bucks more. I'll take the tang please.
So they are so expensive because they are smaller than normal? I wonder why they are smaller...

Size (3") is a small factor in this price because a smaller specimen ships better/easier and comes through in better health, at least in theory. Juveniles are hard to come by. The high cost is more due to the remote location of their range, low numbers in the wild and difficulty in transporting them first to a holding facility, then exporter, importer, wholesaler and LFS. Remember Liveaquaria is an on-line retailer, the last in the chain of possession before you the buyer. They have a great reputation and Drs F&S bought Liveaquaria a few years ago boosting their reputation even farther.

I have that same problem D, although mine is... upgrade to a new russian bride, or one way ticket for the misses ether way your still happy with your purchase price..lol
wow, this fish cost just about what i have invested into my entire 90gal. reef tank! I'll leave this one to the " well off " members of the reefing community!
A Purple Tang at $50 is a steal. I've seen them lately at over $100.
