Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish setup

I want to build a tank setup just for a Fuzzy Dwarf. How big of tank would you do? Keep in mind I don’t have a lot of room to mess around with and don’t want to spend a lot of money. I think my biggest purchase would be the Skimmer. Thanks for everyone’s help.

Nate

They need 30-55 gal of water. I think you are going to need to get a skimmer.

Seahorsedreams will become famous soon enough
I've had mine for a couple fo years now in a 12 gallon nanocube.... It's too small but he'll be upgraded to a 24 when the volitan moves out. 24 gallons in plenty big. The 12 gallon isn't actually too small in regards to living space.... it's too small for hiding spaces. There's just no where to go when he gets nervous .

So, 24g is my vote.

Hey Bob,

You may want to try a bit bigger system. I have alway wanted one of these furry dwarf lionfish and have the perfect tank for you. It will be a wonderful home for this little guy. I have never heard much about the husbandry of these animals and woudl love to hear more. I have seen them in fishstores which you would never see 10 years ago.

Check out the Oceanic systems 30g or 37 gallon cubes. These are great looking tanks that are very affordable. You should not need much light for the lionfish if it is going to be a fowlr tank(w/ or w/o live rock - i would vote on the ladder). Get a decent skimmer because as much as you are going to want to feed, you will need a skimmer to handle the load. You could go crazy and get a Deltec HOB skimmer(pricey) or for me a Corallife Super Skimmer has been just fine. I know a lot of people knock them, but I guess if you get a good one they will work trememdously. My skimmer cup fills up with green gunk regulalry. They just take a few weeks to break in. Great to use when cycling the tank. I am sure there may be some other acceptable HOB skimmers out there.

I think you will love this tank set up and your dwarf lionfish would too.

I hope you go through with it and would love to hear more about the fish.
