nipping blenny

my mimic blenny is sooooo hyper and occasionally he nips on my new milli frag i got from a friend. does anyone out there have the same problem?

That's just "Blenny being Blenny". They will test any and all surface in your system.

Is there any chance that the millipora has any algae on it? My blenny used to "mouth" everything, but did no harm to the corals. He didn't really "nip" it, but when he mouthed it, and realized it was not his food, he let go and moved on.

where peeps run into trouble is when blennies "act like blennies" on other fish. it often stresses them out. this is often the case with SH.

i agree, and a tip for ya, is that there are many fish, specifically those that graze on algae like foxface/rabbitfish or tangs or those that hunt small pods like mandarins or wrasses, that will look like they are eating coral polyps.

the important thing to do (as always) is observer. if you notice damage then take action, if not just continue to observer..

If not for my blenny, my palowensis (now in Neo's Reef) would have been overcome with algae. It is a flattish coral, with ridges, and was in a lower flow area of my tank. The blenny kept it clean and never hurt the coral itself.
