Thumbs up new diet for my mandarin

i just got my mandarin on a new diet and so far it seems he likes it. after reading this random post on reefcentral or nano-reef.com, someone suggested that feeding masago to their mandarin is healthy and quite successful. last nite i got my mandarin some masago and right away he came eating it... and seemed to enjoy it a lot.. so imma start feeding them. as far as nutrition goes, these are better than live brine shrimp. im just sharing this to those mandarin lovers out there who are trying to get their mandarin fed or thinking of getting one.

by the way, masago is the korean/japanese word for the tiny orange eggs that they put on sushi.. also called smelt egg...

hope this helps.. im so excited that my mandarin gets another type of diet....

There is an article on this very subject in the Feb issue of "Tropical Fish Hobbyist". I grabbed my issue early last week and was amazed to find not only that article, but one written by Marc Levenson (of Reefchat fame) on his "mandarin diner". Both have renewed my interest in the little critters and maybe when I get my new tank on track I'll be successful in keeping one.

Glad to hear more anecdotal evidence that manadarins go for roe, and it wasn't just a fluke on the author's part.

This is really sweet!! Which breed of Mandarin do you have?

I've wanted to get one for a while, but they can be so picky about food and I don't have the wealth of copepods in my tank that is normally quoted as needed to keep them healthy.
